In that situation, the Vietnam People's Army is always the core force, the vanguard on the front line of preventing, combating and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, demonstrating the spirit of "serving the people", contributing to protecting the peaceful life of the country.

Proactive and proactive for the peace of the people
Senior Lieutenant General Pham Truong Son, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, said that as soon as there is a forecast of a storm, tropical depression or heavy rain and floods, military units proactively deploy response plans. The forces are always present in a timely manner, helping people to reinforce their houses, evacuate people and property from dangerous areas, contributing to minimizing damage and creating trust and peace of mind for the people.
During major storms and floods, the images of officers and soldiers wading in floodwaters, rescuing isolated people, and bringing necessities to isolated areas are beautiful symbols of the spirit of "serving the people". In particular, during the recent storm No. 13 (international name: Kalmaegi), the military forces were present in key areas, strictly maintaining the on-duty regime, reviewing the "four on-site" plan, ensuring smooth communication and being ready to mobilize for rescue when situations arise.
Major General Hua Van Tuong, Deputy Commander of Military Region 5, said: Implementing the direction of the Party Committee Standing Committee and the Military Region Command, the armed forces units have synchronously deployed response plans, arranged forces and vehicles in key areas, ready to support people in case of emergency. Particularly, the Quang Ngai Provincial Military Command mobilized thousands of officers and soldiers along with motor vehicles, rescue boats, on-site information and logistics equipment, coordinated with the police and local authorities to evacuate people from dangerous areas and protect key projects.
Faced with the complicated developments of storm No. 13, military, police, and militia forces are on duty 24/7, ready to respond, not to be passive or surprised.
Shining the qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers"
When natural disasters occur, the military is always at the forefront of search and rescue. With modern equipment such as speedboats, special vehicles, helicopters, etc. and high professional skills, the army is ready to overcome danger to save people, transport food and medicine to isolated areas, and set up temporary camps for people. Many officers and soldiers have sacrificed their lives while on duty - a testament to the spirit of bravery and selflessness for the Fatherland and the people.
According to the National Civil Defense Steering Committee, before storm No. 13, the Ministry of National Defense directed Military Regions 4, 5, 7 and other units to maintain 268,255 officers and soldiers, including 68,095 soldiers and more than 200,000 militiamen, to respond to the storm. Along with that, the Ministry mobilized 6,723 vehicles, including 3,755 cars, 646 ships, 1,790 boats, canoes, 520 special vehicles and 6 aircraft on standby, ready to perform rescue missions. All people's vehicles have been warned and moved to avoid the storm safely, no vehicles are in the danger zone.
After the storm and flood passed, the military continued to take charge of overcoming the consequences: clearing mud and soil, repairing bridges and roads, restoring schools and medical stations, and rebuilding houses. Military medical units organized medical examinations and treatment, and distributed free medicine; logistics forces supported food and clean water, helping people stabilize their lives soon.
“Not only overcoming the consequences, the army also coordinates with local authorities to propagate and instruct people on measures to prevent natural disasters and improve community response capacity,” Senior Lieutenant General Pham Truong Son added.
The contributions of the military in flood and storm prevention and control deeply demonstrate the noble nature of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" - "loyal to the country, filial to the people", ready to serve the people. In any circumstance, soldiers are always a reliable support, a solid support for the people.
The image of soldiers in green shirts braving the rain, wading through water, helping people harvest rice to escape the flood, carrying old people, and carrying children across rushing water is forever engraved in people's hearts as a beautiful symbol of the close bond between the army and the people.
At recent conferences of the Ministry of National Defense, many agencies and units in the army affirmed: In the work of preventing, combating and overcoming the consequences of storms and floods, the Vietnam People's Army plays a particularly important and irreplaceable role. The timely presence, sense of responsibility and bravery of soldiers have contributed to reducing damage, protecting people's lives and property, maintaining social stability and strengthening people's trust in the Party, State and Army.
It can be said that in the "silent war" against natural disasters, soldiers are still the "steel shield" protecting the peace of the Fatherland and the people.
