On the afternoon of June 4, in Phnom Penh, General Nguyen Tan Cuong, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Military Commission, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, and Deputy Minister of National Defense, visited the headquarters of the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense and met with General Chay Saing Yun, Permanent Secretary of State of the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense on the occasion of an official visit to Cambodia.

Also attending was Major General Nguyen Ba Luc, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army.

General Nguyen Tan Cuong congratulated Cambodia on its many important achievements in recent times, especially in political stability, security and socio-economic development; believed that under the leadership of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), headed by President Hun Sen and the administration of the country by Prime Minister Hun Manet, Cambodia will gain even greater achievements in national construction and development; affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to and gives top priority to continuously consolidating and developing the relationship of "good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term sustainability" with Cambodia.

General Nguyen Tan Cuong respectfully thanked the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense for supporting, attending and sending soldiers of the Royal Cambodian Army to participate in the parade at the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day.

On this occasion, General Nguyen Tan Cuong informed General Chay Saing Yun about the results of the bilateral talks with the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Army.

For his part, General Chay Saing Yun warmly welcomed General Nguyen Tan Cuong and the high-ranking military delegation of the Vietnam People's Army on their official visit to Cambodia.

General Chay Saing Yun thanked the Vietnam People's Army for supporting the development of the Royal Cambodian Army as it is today; affirmed that he will continue to inherit and promote the achievements that previous generations have created and nurtured the relationship between the two countries and the two armies.

At the meeting, the two sides highly appreciated the results of defense cooperation in recent times, especially in areas such as delegation exchanges; effectively maintaining consultation, dialogue and exchange mechanisms; training and coaching; cooperation in combating cross-border crimes; coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums and mechanisms led by ASEAN; promoting the role of the Army in advising on handling non-traditional security issues, disaster relief, and environmental protection.

Regarding the direction of military and defense cooperation in the coming time, the two sides agreed to continue to maintain delegation exchanges; cooperate in fighting cross-border crimes; further improve the quality of human resource training; search for, collect and repatriate the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Cambodia; support each other at multilateral forums and mechanisms; and organize substantive and effective exchange and twinning activities.

At the same time, the two countries' Defense Ministries directed relevant agencies to closely coordinate and prepare well for the second Vietnam-Cambodia Border Defense Friendship Exchange in 2025.
