Welcoming Mr. Robert Kalinak, General Phan Van Giang emphasized that the official visit to Vietnam by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Slovakia has special significance in the context of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1950-2025), creating a new impetus for bilateral defense cooperation, contributing to the active and effective implementation of defense cooperation commitments that the two sides agreed upon in the Memorandum of Understanding on defense cooperation signed in 2015 during the official visit to Vietnam by Slovakian Defense Minister Martin Glvac.

The Party, State and Government of Vietnam always attach importance to consolidating and developing the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Slovakia. The Vietnamese people always appreciate Slovakia's assistance during the past struggle for national independence and reunification and the current national development and international integration. Despite the geographical distance, the two countries still have much room and potential for cooperation in all fields, including defense.

At the talks, the two sides discussed the world and regional situation and issues of mutual concern. General Phan Van Giang emphasized that Vietnam firmly adheres to the “Four Nos” defense policy and wishes to expand bilateral and multilateral defense cooperation on the basis of equality and mutual respect for common interests, contributing to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
In recent times, defense cooperation has received attention from both sides and has been implemented in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2015, achieving positive results.
In the coming time, it is recommended that both sides continue to promote defense cooperation commensurate with the good development and increasingly close relationship between the two countries, focusing on the following areas: increasing delegation exchanges, establishing cooperation mechanisms to enhance mutual understanding and exchanging measures to promote cooperation. I hope that the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense will pay attention and soon send a Slovakian Defense Attaché to Vietnam to act as a bridge to help effectively implement the cooperation contents agreed upon by both sides.

Promote cooperation in training, in which the Slovakian Ministry of Defense is expected to consider accepting Vietnamese soldiers to participate in training courses in the Slovak language and in specialized fields that Slovakia is strong in. The Vietnamese Ministry of Defense is ready to accept Slovak soldiers to study Vietnamese and participate in the International Defense Officials course.
Promote cooperation in UN peacekeeping through delegation exchanges, experience sharing, and participation in appropriate training courses organized by each side; strengthen cooperation in the defense industry; research and seek cooperation opportunities in other potential areas such as cyber security, bomb and mine clearance, overcoming war consequences, responding to non-traditional challenges, and supporting each other within the framework of cooperation between Vietnam and the European Union.
On this occasion, General Phan Van Giang respectfully invited the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense, along with the leaders of the Agency in charge of defense industry cooperation and leading defense industry enterprises of Slovakia to attend the 3rd Vietnam International Defense Exhibition, scheduled to be held at the end of 2026.
General Phan Van Giang expressed his belief that the visit of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Slovakia will contribute to deepening the bilateral defense cooperation in a practical and effective manner, commensurate with the potential of both sides, for the benefit of both countries, for peace, stability and common development of the region and the world.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Slovakia Robert Kalinak emphasized the significance of the long-standing traditional relationship between Vietnam and Slovakia, as the two countries have stood side by side during the years of fighting and development.
Mr. Robert Kalinak expressed his delight at the results of the defense cooperation between the two countries in recent times. At the same time, he suggested that in the coming time, the two countries strengthen cooperation in areas such as defense industry, delegation exchanges at all levels, and cyber security. Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kalinak also agreed to send a Slovakian defense attaché to Vietnam.
During the visit, the delegation of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Slovakia laid wreaths at the Monument to Heroic Martyrs; laid wreaths and visited President Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum...
