Dak Lak creates a green, sustainable economy

The Resolution of the Dak Lak Provincial Party Congress for the 2025-2030 term identifies the development of ecological and high-tech agriculture associated with digital transformation as a key task. This is not only a strategic orientation but also an inevitable step for the locality to effectively exploit its potential, making agriculture a pillar of the green and circular economy.

After the merger, Dak Lak opened up a large development space, converging both forests and seas - two fundamental factors that create a diverse and sustainable ecosystem. From this advantage, the province reshaped its economic structure, in which agriculture was identified as the key sector, playing a core role in the green growth strategy. In the period of 2021 - 2025, Dak Lak agriculture achieved remarkable progress, with the GRDP growth rate of agriculture - forestry - fishery reaching 5.24%/year, 1.5 times higher than the national average. In the industry structure, cultivation continues to dominate, contributing 70% of the total industry value.

Dak Lak is still known as the “coffee capital” of Vietnam, accounting for 30-35% of the country’s coffee output. The geographical indication “Buon Ma Thuot Coffee” has been protected in 32 countries and territories, becoming a global symbol for the quality and reputation of Vietnamese coffee. Coffee beans are not only a key economic product, but also the foundation of the green, sustainable agricultural value chain that the province is creating.

To overcome inherent limitations such as fragmented production, low productivity, and unsynchronized technology application, Dak Lak focuses on technological innovation and deep processing development to increase the value of agricultural products. Phu Yen High-Tech Agricultural Zone currently attracts 9 investment projects with a total registered capital of more than 524 billion VND, focusing on cultivation, processing of agricultural products - food and high-tech seed production. This is considered the driving force to create a strong shift in the province's production structure.

Many businesses have pioneered in shaping green production models. Typically, 2-9 Dak Lak Import-Export Company Limited (Simexco Daklak) has built a network of links with 50,000 farming households, forming raw material areas that meet EUDR standards (cultivation without causing deforestation according to EU regulations). Businesses also apply comprehensive digital transformation in supply chain management, traceability and e-commerce, helping to improve competitiveness and expand high-end markets.

At the same time, Dak Lak province is calling for investment in deep processing centers for coffee, agricultural products and seafood, aiming to reduce raw exports, increase value and reduce emissions. This is the direction to help Dak Lak agricultural products enhance their brand, contribute to the circular economy and save resources.

According to the orientation of the Provincial Party Congress Resolution, in the period of 2026 - 2030, Dak Lak will restructure agriculture towards green development, low emissions, strong application of science and technology and digital transformation in all stages of production.

Dak Lak province will re-plan concentrated production areas, specializing in key products such as coffee, pepper, rubber, fruit trees and aquatic products. The closed value chain production model between farmers - cooperatives - enterprises will help increase productivity, quality, reduce environmental impact and improve economic efficiency. Along with that, Dak Lak promotes research, application and technology transfer, enhances mechanization and automation in harvesting and processing. The province also develops agricultural processing industry, logistics system, warehouse, preservation and transportation to international standards - creating a premise for Dak Lak agricultural products to go far.

In particular, the province focuses on building the Dak Lak agricultural product brand associated with “green” standards and traceability. Trade promotion activities are expanded to potential markets such as Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, contributing to affirming the position of Vietnamese agricultural products on the world map.

With a strategic vision, synchronous policies and the companionship of businesses and people, Dak Lak is gradually realizing the goal of developing green - modern - sustainable agriculture. From international-class Buon Ma Thuot coffee beans to high-tech growing areas stretching across the plateau, all are creating a new look for Dak Lak's economy - where the value of agricultural products is increased on the basis of harmony between economic development, environmental protection and improving people's lives.
