Passion fruit is considered a potential crop in many localities in Dak Nong because it is suitable for the land and climate. However, in recent years, this crop has had unstable development.
One of the reasons for this situation is that the output depends largely on a few Chinese markets. People grow with non-standard varieties and unscientific care processes, resulting in low productivity and quality, affecting income.

According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, in 2019 and 2020, the province's passion fruit area was 1,700 hectares, with an output of about 33,000 tons/year. By 2024, the province's passion fruit area will be 838 hectares, of which over 700 hectares will be for business, with an output of about 25,000 tons.
Meanwhile, according to the orientation, by 2025, the whole province will build and form a raw material area with an area of about 2,000 hectares of passion fruit. This shows that the passion fruit area in Dak Nong is fluctuating, not creating a stable raw material area.
Meanwhile, people are not really assured and have not put much trust in passion fruit trees. Dak Glong district is the area with the largest passion fruit area in the province, with 151 hectares. Many people here invest in growing passion fruit, bringing high economic efficiency.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Quy, village 1, Dak Ha commune, Dak Gong district, her family has 7 sao of purple passion fruit that has just started its business period. With a selling price of 20,000 VND/kg, every 2 days she earns 4 - 5 million VND from the passion fruit garden.
Ms. Quy said that passion fruit is a crop that generates income quite quickly, about 6 months, and the continuous harvest period is about 2-3 years. However, the price of this crop is not stable. There was a time about 3 years ago when passion fruit was only 2,000-3,000 VND/kg. This made her not intend to stick with passion fruit for a long time.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, in the past 2 years, the price of passion fruit has been quite high, fluctuating between 10,000 - 20,000 VND/kg of fresh lemon.
This is considered a great opportunity for Dak Nong passion fruit industry to restructure towards improving productivity, quality, and forming sustainable links.
From July 2022, Vietnamese passion fruit will be officially exported to the Chinese market. In addition to the Chinese market, many businesses have expanded their passion fruit export markets to Middle Eastern and Asian countries. This is a great opportunity for the province's passion fruit production.
Mr. Bui Phu Ton, Director of Nghiep Xuan Import-Export Trading Company Limited, said that the company's demand for purchasing passion fruit raw materials for export processing is very large.
The company has exported thousands of tons of passion fruit juice to China. The opportunity to increase passion fruit export volume is vast in the current context.

The leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Environment assessed that in order for passion fruit trees to develop sustainably and meet export standards, people and businesses need to promote production linkages in the direction of product lines, ensuring food safety and clean agricultural products to increase value.
The province is focusing on solutions to select high-quality passion fruit varieties such as purple passion fruit, Dai Nong 1... to put into production.
The province builds a model for passion fruit production, applies advanced farming techniques, biological pest control, and produces according to standards.

Dak Nong aims to build a brand and geographical indication for passion fruit. All levels, sectors and organizations actively encourage and mobilize growers to participate in cooperatives and cooperative groups, apply science and technology, link passion fruit production, preserve for processing, deep processing and export.
Dak Nong currently has about 15 businesses purchasing and processing passion fruit, and some exporting businesses.
