At 6:55 a.m. on April 8, the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center received information that the HOSEI CROWN ship (Panama nationality, 120 m long, 21 m wide) was on its way from Chua Ve port, Hai Phong to the Philippines, about 20 nautical miles south of buoy 0 of Hai Phong channel, about 45 nautical miles northwest of Bach Long Vi island, when it collided with fishing boat TH 92686TS, causing the fishing boat to sink, 12 crew members missing. The weather in the area has southeast winds of level 3 - 4, and the sea is foggy.
Immediately after receiving the information, the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center coordinated with the Hai Phong Coastal Information Station to issue a maritime notice, contact and directly mobilize vehicles operating in the area to participate in the search and rescue; request the HOSEI CROWN ship to urgently release buoys and organize search work at the scene; establish a search area for vehicles at the scene; and mobilize the SAR 411 ship to search and rescue.
At the same time, the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center informed the forces in the area to coordinate the search and rescue organization, and reported to the National Civil Defense Steering Committee, the Vietnam Maritime and Waterways Administration to direct the forces participating in the search and rescue. At the same time, set up a forward command post at the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center Region I (Hai Phong) and sent a working group to promptly direct the search and rescue coordination at the scene.
By 9:10 a.m. on April 8, search forces at the scene had rescued 8 fishermen and recovered 4 bodies. SAR 411 at the scene brought all 8 crew members and 4 bodies to the Central Pier in Hai Phong to hand over to the authorities.
