The imprints of major brands born since the liberation day

Up to now, Vietnam has had hundreds of large branded enterprises, strongly contributing to the development of the country's economy , marking Vietnam on the world map. According to Brand Finance - a UK-based brand valuation organization, in 2024, the value of Vietnam's National Brand will be valued at 507 billion USD, ranking 32nd in the world, up one place compared to 2023.

Previously, Vietnam National Brand has continuously risen strongly in the annual ranking of 100 countries in the world . Brand Finance assessed Vietnam as the country with the fastest growth rate of brand value in the world, increasing by 102% in the 5-year period from 2019 - 2023.

Besides, Vietnam also has many famous brands of made-in-Vietnam products in the world such as Vinfast, Trung Nguyen... Especially, Viettel - the only brand of Vietnam to be included in the "Top 500 most valuable brands in the world 2024" (Global 500 of Brand Finance) and ranked 241st.

Previously, there were also about 10 Vietnamese enterprises in the Top 1,000 most famous brands in Asia. These are all enterprises that were formed and developed during the period when the country entered the renovation period and was facilitated for economic components to "unleash" and join the beat with the world through policies on international economic integration.

But the history of Vietnamese companies and enterprises began long before that... There are brands that are now nearly as old as the "age of the country" such as Garment Corporation 10, founded in 1946. And among them, there are also companies and enterprises that were founded right after the day the South was completely liberated and the country was unified. Therefore, 1975 was not only the mark of the day the whole country sang the song of triumphant unification but also the beginning of a series of big names, currently pillars in many sectors of the economy.

Special businesses

Among the special enterprises established right in the days when the atmosphere of liberation was still “hot”, the news of victory had just been spread nationwide, the first to be mentioned is Antesco (An Giang Vegetables and Foodstuffs Joint Stock Company). This company has a rather special history of establishment, on the day of the Liberation of the South - April 30, 1975.

Mr. Nguyen Hoang Minh - General Director of Antesco said that in 1975, when the country celebrated the Great Spring Victory, An Giang Agricultural Materials Company - the predecessor of An Giang Agricultural Technical Services Company was established. In 2011, An Giang Agricultural Technical Services Company officially changed its name to An Giang Vegetables and Foodstuffs Joint Stock Company.

From a company specializing in supplying materials to becoming a leading agricultural exporter in Vietnam, Antesco has a 50-year history, closely associated with the development and reconstruction of the country. Each milestone of Antesco bears the mark of innovative policies and timely decisions of the Party and State.

And the strong transformation of a local company has brought Antesco to record numbers when revenue exceeded 1,400 billion VND in 2024, affirming the position of Vietnamese brands in more than 40 countries around the world. This is also the first enterprise to export frozen processed agricultural products, contributing to increasing the value of the agricultural industry.

The Proceedings of the Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC) recorded: “Immediately after the Great Victory of Spring 1975, completely liberating the South and unifying the country, at 7:00 a.m. on May 1, 1975, the Saigon - Gia Dinh Military Management Subcommittee led by comrade Le Thanh Phung - Deputy Subcommittee, was present at 72 Hai Ba Trung, commanding the military to manage the entire and intact technical facilities of the Vietnam Electricity Company - that was the moment marking the beginning of the establishment of the Southern Power Corporation (May 1, 1975).

Perhaps the first officers and employees of EVNSPC cannot forget the first working days when electricity activities at that time were extremely difficult and complicated because power plants lacked fuel (oil); damaged equipment components had no spare parts, and there was no foreign currency to import equipment... The Southern power grid had not been completely built, many areas had no electricity; electricity production and distribution activities were still fragmented and patchy...

But the task right after the takeover was even more difficult. That was to “keep the electricity shining continuously by all means”. At the same time, plan to immediately repair the lines destroyed by bombs in the City (must be completed within two days, May 2-3) and repair the Saigon - My Tho line (in Thu Thua area) before May 4... With their warm minds and hearts, the first engineers of EVNSPC overcame everything and built a 50-year journey to light up the brilliant Southern land.

Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Duc - General Director of EVNSPC shared that if in the early days of liberation, only about 2.5% of households had electricity, by 2024, the Corporation had provided electricity to 99.9% of households. Notably, EVNSPC is also the Power Corporation that manages and distributes electricity to the most island districts in the country (5/12 island districts) including: Phu Quoc City and Kien Hai District (Kien Giang Province), Con Dao (Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province), Phu Quy (Binh Thuan Province), Truong Sa (Khanh Hoa Province), contributing to improving the quality of life of soldiers and people on the islands, firmly protecting the sacred sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.

The pillars of the economy

In addition to the units established almost immediately on the historic day of April 30, 1974, there were also units established not long after, affirming the correct decisions for Vietnam's economic development path.

It was June 1975 when the Southern Vietnam Shipping Company (the predecessor of the Vietnam Shipping and Chartering Joint Stock Company - Vitranschart JSC today) was born. At the time of its establishment, the Company took over the maritime facilities with the fleet left by the old regime, operating under the self-management method, inland coastal transport. The Company's ocean-going fleet, from only operating effectively in the socialist countries, has expanded to dock at most ports in the world, developing many new ocean-going routes. Thanks to the good exploitation of foreign shipping routes, Vitranschart JSC has contributed to bringing the revenue of the maritime transport industry to nearly 1 billion USD by 2024.

City Tourism Company - the predecessor of Saigon Tourist Corporation (Saigontourist) was established under Decision No. 04/QD-UB dated August 1, 1975 of the Saigon Gia Dinh Military Management Committee (now Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee). This is the first tourism company of the City with 236 officers, employees, managing a number of hotels and doing tourism business, supplying ships.

Up to now, after 50 years of transformation with the City and the country, Saigontourist has owned and managed more than 50 hotels and resorts spread across the three regions of the North - Central - South. Many hotels and resorts are classified as architectural and artistic heritages, bearing the meaning of historical witnesses associated with many unique stories, historical milestones as well as the socio-economic development process of Vietnam, such as Continental Saigon Hotel, Majestic Saigon, Grand Saigon, Rex Saigon, Caravell Saigon, New World Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City), Saigon - Morin (Hue),...

Vietnam Oil and Gas Corporation, abbreviated as Petrovietnam, was established on September 9, 1977, but the history of Petrovietnam's formation is counted from September 3, 1975 when the General Department of Oil and Gas of Vietnam (the predecessor of Petrovietnam - today's National Energy Industry Group) was established, according to Decision No. 170/CP of the Government Council.
