When cooperatives, enterprises deep processing of agricultural products will easily access more markets, higher product value, bringing many benefits to people.
Deep processing, value added
In the past 10 years, the clean dragon fruit brand Hoa Le, Ma Lam commune ( Lam Dong ) has become familiar not only to local people but also to many neighboring areas.
Established in 2017, Hoa Le Clean Dragon Fruit Cooperative has 18 official members and 34 associate members, mainly producing and trading dragon fruit products.
Up to now, the cooperative has expanded its business lines and deeply processed dragon fruit products such as: dragon fruit spirits, dragon fruit wine, mineral water, dragon fruit juice, cakes made from dragon fruit powder; dragon fruit essential oil production,... Thanks to that, from an initial capital of only 900 million VND, the cooperative's working capital has now reached 2.5 billion VND.
Director of Hoa Le Clean Dragon Fruit Cooperative Do Thanh Hiep said that at present, the cooperative has nine products from dragon fruit 3-star OCOP certification.
To stabilize and continue to expand production scale, the cooperative is promoting cooperation, expanding the market and increasing dragon fruit output to 8,000-12,000 tons/year. Continuing to develop more members, expanding the area of standard dragon fruit growing areas, the cooperative has enough capacity and confidence to export products to demanding markets such as the European Union (EU), Korea, and Japan.
Thanks to investment in expanding the processing plant, cold storage, modern machinery and equipment, and a synchronized production process according to GlobalGAP and VietGAP standards, the cooperative's dragon fruit products have been and are being favored by consumers on e-commerce platforms, and have signed contracts to supply fresh dragon fruit in chains with three dragon fruit cooperatives: Ham Duc, Ham Phu and Thuan Minh; along with cooperatives and farming households with an area of over 200 hectares.
In addition, the cooperative signed contracts to supply dragon fruit to import-export companies such as: Ant Farm, Yasaka (fruit processing), Comex Farm,...
Applying technology to increase product value is the choice of many cooperatives and agricultural enterprises, including Hung Lo Rice Noodle Cooperative, Van Phu ward (Phu Tho).
Thanks to the application of science and technology, the products of Hung Lo Rice Noodle Cooperative have basically dominated the consumer market, deeply participated in supermarket chains, restaurants, opened agents and distributors in many localities across the country; participated in supermarket chains such as Big C, Coopmart, OCOP store chains, Vinmart, Aloha,... On average, each day, the cooperative consumes 3-4 tons rice noodles finished product
According to Mr. Cao Dang Duy, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director of Hung Lo Rice Noodle Cooperative, in addition to dominating the domestic market share, Hung Lo rice noodles have been exported to Japan and Taiwan (China). Currently, the cooperative has three product lines meeting 4-star OCOP standards and 11 product lines meeting 5-star OCOP standards,...
This is a proud result of the cooperative, but in order to promote the advantages and potential of traditional craft village products, the cooperative still determines to proactively apply science and technology, digital transformation, and invest in modern equipment in production such as cold drying systems, production lines, noodle cutting machines, packaging machines, etc. to ensure product quality.
Thanks to investment in new machinery and technology systems, the cooperative has contributed to creating jobs for poor and near-poor households in the locality with an average income of 6-7 million VND/person/month.
Challenges in key markets
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment said that in the first half of the year, the total export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products of the whole sector reached 33.84 billion USD, up 15.5% over the same period last year. However, it must be frankly acknowledged that the growth of agricultural exports is not really sustainable, due to global geopolitical fluctuations.
Therefore, the Ministry recommends that each export sector needs to develop production and business plans to adapt to the challenges of key markets, while proactively expanding to find new markets.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Phu Tho province, in the process of building product brands, to increase competitiveness, enhance product value, mobilize and support farmers and manage clean, organic and high-tech production, the provincial agricultural sector has been promoting technology transfer, application and innovation for businesses, cooperatives and households.
Thanks to that, Phu Tho province has valuable crop products and many new agricultural processing products with high productivity, quality, safety, bringing clear economic efficiency, limiting environmental pollution, meeting the increasing demand of the market.
“We aim to increase investment in technology to improve quality, preserve agricultural products longer, and reduce input costs to maintain the best price for finished products. We will also actively expand to markets in Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia, etc. to reduce risks in exports,” said Mr. Duy.
Forming a new production strategy to adapt to global competition, the Director of Hoa Le Clean Dragon Fruit Cooperative said that the cooperative is promoting the production chain towards deep processing, enhancing training, coaching, and supporting technology transfer and science and technology for members.
