On December 1, information from the Office of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province said that the Chairman of the People's Committee of this province has just approved the project of embankment to prevent landslides and protect the sea dyke in the area of Ganh Hao commune (section from canal 3 to Mui Tau intersection, Ganh Hao commune, Ca Mau).
The project's objective is to reduce waves and limit erosion to protect the East Sea dyke from the impacts of climate and rising sea levels. At the same time, restore and develop the mangrove ecosystem, create livelihoods for people, protect the East Sea dyke, be proactive in dyke protection, prevent floods and storms, protect people's lives and property, and protect the environment.
According to the plan, the anti-erosion embankment project has a length of 2,500 m, with a total investment of nearly 100 billion VND, invested by the Bac Lieu Agricultural and Rural Development Construction Investment Project Management Board. The project uses reinforced concrete structure, arranging three types of embankment structures including wave-reducing embankment, unit between 2 segments and end-of-route locking unit. All maintain a peak elevation of +2.8 m, the embankment surface is 2.8 m wide, the embankment foot is reinforced with stone gabions to withstand direct impact from sea waves.

The new feature of this revetment project is the "remote wave reduction" solution, a technical configuration not common in southwestern coastal projects, which allows the elimination of wave energy before it impacts the East Sea dike. Thereby reducing erosion and creating conditions for the restoration of the mangrove ecosystem inside. This is also the long-term goal of the project, from preventing immediate landslides to stabilizing livelihoods, developing forests and protecting the property and lives of people in areas strongly affected by rising sea levels.
The Ganh Hao sea dike protection embankment project will be implemented in the period of 2025 - 2028, in which investment preparation work will be carried out from 2025 - 2026 and construction from 2026 - 2028.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tung, Head of the Irrigation Sub-Department of Ca Mau province, said that Ca Mau has a coastline of 310 km, of which more than 200 km is being eroded, which is even more dangerous. Statistics from 2011 to 2023 show that the whole province has lost about 6,200 hectares of land and coastal protection forests due to erosion, many residential areas, infrastructure works and production areas are threatened.

Ca Mau province has developed a project to prevent coastal and riverbank erosion until 2030, identifying the need to repair 15 eroded coastal sections with a length of about 120 km. This is an important step, helping Ca Mau province proactively adapt to climate change and high tides, while protecting coastal residential areas, important traffic routes and production areas.
According to the People's Committee of Ca Mau province, recently, thanks to support from the Central Government, the province has built more than 110 km of embankment to prevent landslides using prestressed centrifugal concrete pile technology. The embankment structure consists of two rows of piles 10-12 m long, filled with rubble between the two rows, on top of the piles there is a system of longitudinal and transverse beams. Waves passing through the embankment are almost completely eliminated, helping to cause sedimentation, create beaches and restore mangrove forests.
Thanks to that, over 1,000 hectares of coastal protection forests have regenerated, contributing to protecting the land and maintaining the coastal ecosystem. Currently, Ca Mau province is implementing an additional 20 km of embankment with a budget of about 770 billion VND, continuing to expand the area of coastal protection and residential communities.
