Positive results
As one of the pioneering households choosing the path of organic agricultural production since 2018, up to now, Mr. Bui Quang Huyen in Thuong Phuoc village, Trieu Phong commune has 3 hectares of oranges with Vietnam organic certification.
Talking to us, Mr. Huyen shared that this area was previously his family's hybrid acacia forest, which did not bring in much income. With the determination to switch to other crops, after careful research, in 2018, with the support of Trieu Phong district (old) in converting the crop structure, he decided to convert 4 hectares of forest land to build a comprehensive farm.
With many years of experience in garden economics , Mr. Huyen decided to choose the organic production path with 3 hectares of oranges grown in Xa Doai. With the remaining area, he invested in building barns to raise pigs, buffaloes, cows, dug ponds to raise fish to "take short-term to feed long-term", and took advantage of manure to fertilize oranges.
Thanks to strictly following the technical process according to the "5 no" standard: No chemical fertilizers, no pesticides, no herbicides, no growth stimulants and no preservatives; only using decomposed organic manure combined with hydrolyzed fish to fertilize the plants; applying a water-saving drip irrigation system, the orange garden grows quickly and produces sweet fruit.

According to Mr. Huyen's calculations, with 1,300 orange trees in harvest, his family harvests an average of 20-25 tons of fruit each year. With the current selling price of about 15,000-20,000 VND/kg, after deducting expenses, he earns a profit of about 120-150 million VND. "Growing organic oranges requires a lot of effort and perseverance, but in return, the environment is protected, the trees are healthy, and the fruit is delicious. Especially, it does not affect the health of growers and consumers," said Mr. Huyen.
In Cua Tung commune, Dfarm Quang Tri farm is one of the typical high-tech agricultural production models of the province, including a system of 10 modern greenhouses on an area of 5,000m2 built synchronously from load-bearing steel frames, insect screens, nylon films, automatic watering and fertilization systems... according to Israeli technology.
Ms. Tran Thu Trang, owner of Dfarm Quang Tri farm, said that all stages at the farm strictly follow the organic production process and are carried out by a team of well-trained engineers. Absolutely no chemical fertilizers or pesticides are used, only organic microbial fertilizers and biological measures are used for plants to grow naturally, producing good quality products. The farm's main products are melons, cantaloupes, in addition to vegetables, tomatoes, apples... and all meet organic standards. The farm's products are mostly supplied according to orders from domestic provinces and cities, while a few are consumed through retail channels. "On average, each year, revenue from organic agricultural products reaches about 1.5-1.6 billion VND," Ms. Trang said.
Planning of concentrated organic agricultural production areas
Although some initial results have been achieved, in reality, organic production in the province is still modest, not fully exploiting its inherent potential and strengths. Up to now, the whole province has only nearly 350 hectares of rice produced according to organic standards and natural cultivation; over 500 hectares of organic production, 95 hectares of rice meeting VietGAP standards and over 160 hectares of rice produced in a safe food environment. In addition, there are nearly 100 hectares of pepper with international organic certification; some small areas of fruit trees, such as: K4 oranges, peony grapes, bamboo shoots... have been certified organic. In the field of livestock, there are some models of biosafety pig farming in an organic direction, models of herbal pig farming in an organic direction...
The reason is that the awareness of some people about clean agricultural production, organic agriculture associated with value chain linkage is still limited; organic agricultural production areas have not been planned in accordance with the potential and advantages of regions; the scale of organic production is still fragmented, small, not highly commercial; the linkage between production and consumption of organic products is still few, weak and not really sustainable...

Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Hong Phuong said that identifying organic agricultural production as an urgent requirement to develop sustainable agriculture, linking production with market demand, in the coming time, the department will closely coordinate with localities in selecting suitable crops and livestock with market potential to orient the development of specialized concentrated organic agricultural production areas.
Develop cultivation objects based on the strengths and needs of each locality, with characteristics, geographical indications, ensuring quality and economic value. Build projects and models of value chain linkage between enterprises and cooperatives producing, processing and trading organic products in concentrated production areas, creating large-scale goods for key products such as: Rice, vegetables, fruits, fruit trees, pepper, medicinal plants; organic pork, organic poultry; sustainable and environmentally friendly organic shrimp farming; organic cage fish farming on rivers...
The unit also focuses on researching and perfecting high-tech farming processes combined with organic production for key products to improve productivity, quality, reduce input costs, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Applying high technology for deep processing and refined processing to create valuable products, meeting the increasing demand of domestic and foreign consumers. At the same time, guiding and supporting enterprises and cooperatives to register for trademarks and geographical indications to effectively trace the origin; supporting market development and building brands for key agricultural products of the province.
