HUMANITIES SUBJECT TOPICS, CLOSE, EDUCATIONAL
Sharing his emotions about the 10th grade entrance exam for literature in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Do Duc Anh, a teacher at Bui Thi Xuan High School (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City), said that the exam not only evoked sincere emotions but also helped students express their deep thinking, in line with the innovative spirit of the subject in the new program. "This is a good, humane, balanced and modern exam, not focusing on testing memorization knowledge but aiming to assess thinking, perception and argumentation skills. Students do not have to face macro social issues or heavy philosophical thoughts, and have the opportunity to express their own thoughts. The exam is open-ended, with the ability to differentiate students well through the social discussion section," Mr. Duc Anh commented.
The theme throughout the exam is "growing up". The selection of the poem "Con Nam" by Te Hanh brings students back to their family memories, the first cradle of love, cleverly emphasizing the role of parents in each person's growth. The reading comprehension and social discussion sections continue the theme, focusing on "knowing how to read", "knowing how to filter", "knowing how to recognize the right thing".

However, according to Mr. Duc Anh, the question is not difficult but has many requirements. For example, asking students to write a paragraph of about 200 words analyzing the content of the topic and some special features of the poem is a bit too much. With a short amount of time, it is difficult for students to summarize the analysis for both the content of the topic and some special artistic features. Therefore, many students may write more than the required amount of time and waste time on this question. The 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City is more challenging than the high school graduation exam because it has 2 reading comprehension texts. Students must have solid knowledge and skills to be able to complete it in 120 minutes.
The social argument is a bit tricky in the concept of "know how to read", which may make it difficult for some students to determine the argumentative issue. You have to think carefully about the issue to determine the correct argumentative issue, if you rush, you may stray from the topic.
With this test, according to Mr. Duc Anh, the average score range will range from 5.5 to 7 points. Students who are diligent, practice writing skills and know how to think independently will be able to achieve 8 points or more.

TEST TITLES CLOSELY LINKED TO SKILLS
Master Tran Nguyen Tuan Huy, head of the literature group at Tran Boi Co Secondary School (District 5, Ho Chi Minh City), assessed that the literature exam questions have a reasonable level of differentiation and thinking, not mechanically separated, and at the same time closely linking skills and ideas in the entire exam. The integrated exam fully assesses literary and language abilities. Students must read and understand two types of texts (literature - argumentation), write paragraphs (short feelings), write articles (state personal opinions), and combine many argumentative operations (explanation, analysis, commentary, rebuttal, etc.). This integration is consistent with the goals of the new program.
In this year's exam, Mr. Tuan Huy said that the concept of "knowing how to read" has a multi-layered, profound meaning, not only stopping at basic language skills, but also expanding to thinking ability, ethics and the ability to live humanely. This is in line with the spirit of comprehensiveeducation of the new program.
The phrase "know how to read" in the exam does not simply mean knowing how to recognize letters, but is expanded to become a symbol of thinking ability and personality maturity. "Knowing how to read" is the ability to receive, analyze and select information that is true or false, real or fake in the era of information explosion. It is also the ability to understand positive life values such as love, tolerance, integrity - from books to real life, knowing how to live correctly, knowing how to look at life with a humane eye.
Master Huy also predicted that the average score for this year's literature subject will mainly fluctuate between 6.5 and 7.25, focusing on students with average and good abilities. This score level is suitable for the nature of the test, which is not riddled, but clearly requires reading comprehension, expression and personal thinking.
According to the head of the literature group at Tran Boi Co Secondary School, scores from 7.5 to 8.5 and above will be a big challenge, because the questions for writing paragraphs and writing social and literary essays require depth, critical thinking, connection to reality or good literary appreciation. Students must express their personal voice, independent thinking and have the ability to write logically, emotionally, and avoid stereotypes. With that requirement, good scores will be difficult to spread out but will focus on a few students with good language thinking, a systematic review process and a writing style rich in personality.

English questions are clearly classified but not confusing
Regarding the 10th grade English exam, teacher Tran Thi Van, Nguyen Du Secondary School (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City), assessed that it was suitable for the program's orientation. The exam was clearly classified but not confusing; closely followed reality and had high classification. The topics in the exam were familiar such as student life, communication, community activities, sports , food, environment, etc.
Vocabulary, structure, and context are all familiar to current 9th grade students. According to Ms. Van, the first part is quite basic, but the following parts "word form" (29-34) and sentence rewriting (37-40) help classify students very clearly. The reading comprehension skills in the test are quite long, requiring students to grasp the main idea and supporting details. Students will easily make mistakes if they skim the test. Sentences requiring rewriting such as "It was such awful weather..." require students to be proficient in advanced structures (so…that / such…that, present perfect, conditional…).
Although the vocabulary in the 10th grade English exam is not too academic or difficult, it is still a barrier for students, especially the long words in the reading comprehension section, which require students to have a relatively good vocabulary.
According to Ms. Van, although the structure remains the same, the 2025 exam has been upgraded in terms of difficulty in vocabulary, grammar, reading comprehension and increased ability to classify students, especially in the good and excellent groups. This differentiation will help the admissions council select students for top high schools.
Today (June 7), students will continue to take math exams (morning) and specialized subjects (afternoon). On June 8, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will start grading the 10th grade exams and is expected to announce the exam results on June 25.
