New trends in the treatment of digestive and hepatobiliary diseases

On June 8, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital (UMPH) organized a scientific conference with the theme 'New trends in the treatment of digestive and hepatobiliary diseases in 2025' (GastroHep UMC 2025).

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Associate Professor - Doctor - Doctor Nguyen Hoang Bac, Director of University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, affirmed: "The Department of Gastroenterology - Hepatobiliary is one of the key units of the hospital, always aiming for in-depth training, approaching international standards in treatment and diagnosis. This year's conference is an opportunity for the professional community to update new trends, connect generations of experts, and together build a solid professional foundation, on par with the region and the world ."

Along with that, Associate Professor - Doctor - Doctor Vo Duy Thong, Head of the Department of Gastroenterology emphasized: "Digestive - hepatobiliary diseases are becoming more and more common, progressing in a complex manner and there are many changes in treatment approaches. GastroHep-UMC is a forum for experts to share experiences, update the latest trends from international associations, and at the same time spread the spirit of connection, development and practical application in the context of Vietnam".

The conference program focuses on common but challenging diseases in diagnosis and treatment such as: Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), functional dyspepsia (FD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), viral hepatitis B, fatty liver disease associated with metabolic disorders (MAFLD), chronic enteritis, liver cancer (HCC)... For each group of diseases, the presentations are not only up-to-date, but also suggest multimodal approaches and personalized treatment.

One of the highlights of the conference was the introduction of new techniques in assessing digestive function such as pH-impedance measurement, HRM, along with the application of technology in endoscopy, imaging and early screening tools. At the same time, topics such as the role of the microbiome, the multidisciplinary treatment model in MAFLD, or the strategy to optimize the use of biological drugs in chronic enteritis... attracted much attention.

Associate Professor - Doctor - Physician Vo Duy Thong added: "This is the first time the GastroHep-UMC conference has been organized on a large scale. We expect the event to become a series of regular academic conferences, where not only knowledge is shared but also professional cooperation is promoted between treatment, training and research units in the field of gastroenterology - hepatobiliary in Vietnam".
