The Gifted High School is one of the leading specializedhigh schools in Vietnam. The school has an outstanding role and capacity in discovering and training talented students and contributing to the high-quality human resources for Ho Chi Minh City in particular and the country in general. Although it is headquartered in Ho Chi Minh City and is training students in Ho Chi Minh City, the school's teachers have not received additional income according to the resolution of the City People's Council regulating the payment of additional income.

Ho Chi Minh City National University said that it will coordinate with the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to develop mechanisms and policies to submit to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council to implement a mechanism for officials of the Gifted High School to enjoy additional income, and pilot a number of specific mechanisms and policies for the development of Ho Chi Minh City.

Currently, the income of public teachers in Ho Chi Minh City is quite high. In addition to salaries and benefits according to state regulations, teachers also receive additional income according to the resolution of the City People's Council to pilot a number of special policies and mechanisms.

According to Resolution 185/2023 issued by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council on the state budget revenue and budget revenue and expenditure estimates for 2024, the maximum applicable additional income coefficient is 1.5 times the salary scale and position. Accordingly, the formula for calculating the monthly additional income of general education teachers in Ho Chi Minh City, when completing their tasks excellently, is as follows: Additional income/month = Salary coefficient + Position allowance coefficient (if any) x 2,340,000 VND (base salary) x 1.5 (additional income coefficient).

Of which 2,340,000 VND is the current basic salary (effective from July 1, 2024). Teachers in Ho Chi Minh City can receive additional income up to the highest level of 23 million/month. Additional income in Ho Chi Minh City is paid quarterly (3 months).
