Proposal to build Thanh Son airport under PPP form

VnExpressVnExpress13/06/2023

The People's Committee of Ninh Thuan province has just proposed to the Government to allow the investment in Thanh Son Airport under the form of public-private partnership (PPP).

According to the leaders of Ninh Thuan province, immediately after the Prime Minister approved the planning of the national airport system for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, the province directed to accelerate the project of socializing investment and exploitation of Thanh Son port and detailed planning. The goal is to be able to build the airport from 2023 to 2025 under the PPP form.

In order to create favorable conditions to attract investors, the People's Committee of Ninh Thuan province proposed that the Prime Minister assign the province as the competent state agency to implement the project.

Thanh Son is currently a level 1 military airport, located in Phan Rang - Thap Cham City, Ninh Thuan Province. In terms of area, the airport can accommodate large aircraft such as A350, B777, B787, but the infrastructure such as runways, taxiways, and parking lots were built in the 1960s and are now degraded.

Regarding land fund, the area east and southeast of Thanh Son airport runway can be studied for planning of civil aviation area with works meeting the capacity of about 5 million passengers per year.

Thanh Son Airport, when put into civil use, will help remove traffic infrastructure bottlenecks, open up new growth drivers, and promote socio-economic development and national defense and security for the locality.
