Tonight's supermoon will reach its full state at 6:26 p.m. on October 17 (Vietnam time), in the direction of the Pisces constellation.

October's full moon, nicknamed the "hunter moon," will be the third of four consecutive supermoons in 2024, starting with August's blue moon, September's mid-autumn moon, and then the beaver moon in November.

A supermoon occurs when the full moon occurs when the moon is at its closest point to the Earth, according to The Guardian on October 17, quoting Dr. Brad Tucker, an astrophysicist at the Australian National University.

This time, the moon is 357,364 kilometers from Earth, the closest of any full moon event of the year, according to AstroPixels .

According to the Adler Planetarium , the supermoon is 30% brighter and nearly 15% larger than a normal full moon.

During the October supermoon, people on Earth can observe the full moon on all three days of October 16-18.

Professor Jonti Horner of the University of Southern Queensland (Australia) confirmed that the night of October 17 will be the brightest supermoon of the year, because the Earth moves closer to the moon in October compared to September.

The Earth will be closer to the sun during the November supermoon event, but the distance between the Earth and the moon will be further than in October, so the November supermoon will not be as bright as this month's supermoon.

November's supermoon, which is also the last supermoon of the year, will take place on November 15.
