The National Economics University has just announced the method of calculating admission scores for each admission method in 2025. Accordingly, candidates with international English certificates have a distinct advantage when applying for combined admission to the school.
Accordingly, the school adds 0.75 points to all candidates with international English certificates, regardless of high or low scores. For example, candidates with IELTS 5.5 or 9.0 will receive the same 0.75 points.
At the same time, candidates can convert IELTS and foreign language certificates into component scores. If they get 5.5 IELTS, the National Economics University will convert it to 8/10 points. If they get 7.5 IELTS or more, they will be counted as 10. This conversion level is the same as last year.
Thus, if candidates register for the National Economics University using the combined IELTS and graduation exam scores, they will receive an additional 0.75 points and can use the converted certificate score to replace the English subject in the admission combination.
With this scoring method, candidates with IELTS, TOEFL iBT, TOIEC, and those with international English certificates are at a great advantage. On the contrary, candidates applying with high school graduation exam scores or competency or thinking assessment scores will have difficulty competing.

An example of this way of calculating scores is that candidates with international English certificates are at an advantage. |
On the fanpage of the National Economics University, many opinions said that the above method of calculating admission scores is unfair. "The group already has an IELTS conversion score and is added because of having IELTS, is it considered as being calculated on the same criteria?", one account commented.
The school only calculates IELTS bonus points for the combined admission method. Candidates applying with SAT will not receive 0.75 bonus points if they have IELTS.

Dr. Le Anh Duc - Head of Training Management Department (National Economics University) |
The school has calculated to ensure that the chances of admission of candidates are equal.
Regarding the school adding 2 times the score for candidates with foreign language certificates in the 2025 enrollment, talking to Tien Phong reporter, Dr. Le Anh Duc - Head of Training Management Department said that the National Economics University has calculated to ensure that when announcing the conversion formula, candidates with different admission methods will be evaluated fairly, the converted score is equivalent in the sense of core competencies to meet the input requirements of the training majors/programs.
At the same time, ensuring that the admission chances of this year's candidates are relatively equivalent to those of recent years' candidates applying to the National Economics University with the same admission method.
The National Economics University determined that the vast majority of candidates registered to take the 2025 high school graduation exam, so if they have an international English certificate, candidates can choose to combine the international English certificate with the 2025 high school graduation exam score to be considered for admission to the school.
Dr. Duc emphasized that based on the study results of the last 3 years of candidates admitted according to different admission methods, the school has identified and evaluated the learning capacity of each group of students according to the admission method and this is an important basis for the National Economics University to come up with conversion rules and formulas.
At the same time, it is also the basis for the National Economics University to determine bonus points/points (for candidates with international English certificates) applied to admission candidates in accordance with the entrance requirements of the National Economics University.
The head of the Training Management Department said that before 5:00 p.m. on July 23, the National Economics University will announce the equivalent conversion table between admission methods to ensure fairness between candidates applying to the National Economics University with different admission methods. At the same time, it also ensures relative fairness between this year's candidates and candidates in recent years who have applied to the National Economics University.
In 2025, the National Economics University will enroll a total of 8,500 students (an increase of about 7% compared to 2024), including 8,200 students for the regular university system and 300 students for the regular university transfer program.
The school is recruiting 73 admission codes (7 more than last year), corresponding to 89 training programs. Of which, there are 2 new majors, both taught in Vietnamese: International Commercial Law and Labor Relations.
The school reserves 3% of its quota for direct admission according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training ; 97% of its quota for admission based on 2024 high school graduation exam scores and combined admission.
