Associate Professor Nguyen Anh Tuan, Head of Training and Student Affairs Department, Hanoi National University, said that the 3-year bachelor's program is a training model implemented according to the human resource preparation plan to implement Resolution 57 on science , technology development, innovation and digital transformation of Hanoi National University.
From 2025, Hanoi National University will implement a 3-year international standard bachelor's degree training model.
The standard training period will be 3 years, with a flexible study structure of 3 semesters per year, allowing students to adjust their study progress and personalize their learning path. For excellent students, the completion time can be shortened to 2.5 years.
In addition to political theory and general knowledge courses taught in Vietnamese, most specialized courses (including graduation theses) will be taught entirely in English.
The application of digital technology, especially artificial intelligence, will be promoted in both teaching and learning. Forms of learning organization will be diversified, combining direct learning, online learning, group work, supervised self-study or completely individualized according to each student's ability.
Associate Professor Nguyen Anh Tuan said that the implementation of the 3-year bachelor's program will prioritize the fields of basic science, semiconductor technology, microchips, engineering and key technology. Hanoi National University will begin enrolling students for this program in 2025, but the school has not yet announced details of enrollment, which majors, and how many students will be recruited.
Since students must study in English, the expected enrollment quota is not large. The school will have to set English requirements when enrolling students in addition to natural science subjects. In the immediate future, it will recruit for semiconductor programs.
With these programs, Hanoi National University will still enroll students in parallel, both the current bachelor's program (4 years) and the 3-year bachelor's program. Whether or not to expand to other fields this year depends on whether the schools have time to develop the programs or not," said Associate Professor Nguyen Tuan Anh.
Although the training time is shortened to 3 years, students still have to study at least 120 credits as required by the Ministry of Education and Training for current bachelor's programs. To shorten the training time, the 3-year bachelor's program will be implemented according to the model of 3 semesters/academic year. Current 4-year bachelor's programs are organized in long semesters (2 semesters/academic year), with about 18 - 22 weeks/semester, with a reserve time of about 3 semesters.
The 3-year bachelor's program will be organized for 12 - 15 weeks/semester. The training time is flexible, students will continue studying in the next semester after finishing this semester. The expected number of training credits is from 125 - 135 (current bachelor's programs are usually designed for around 140 credits, some programs are up to 150 credits).
From 2025, Hanoi National University will introduce digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) courses to first-year students at all 12 member schools.
This course, titled "Introduction to Digital Technology and Artificial Intelligence Applications", aims to equip students with basic knowledge of digital thinking and AI. All students will study the above course online for 3 credits. It includes compulsory and elective components, suitable for students in many majors such as Natural Sciences, Engineering - Technology, Social Sciences and Humanities, Economics - Law, Foreign Languages and Educational Sciences.
School leaders said students will be provided with basic knowledge and skills, as a prerequisite for acquiring specialized courses on technology and AI applications in specialized fields.
