On November 15, doctors at Quang Tri General Hospital informed that they had successfully treated a child patient named NQTĐ. (3 years old, residing in Cua Viet commune, Quang Tri province) who was choking on a dangerous foreign object.
D. was admitted to the hospital with a severe cough. Through X-rays, doctors discovered a 22mm long bone marrow needle lodged in the airway, right at the point where the trachea bifurcates, threatening to cause respiratory obstruction.

Doctors performed emergency endoscopy to remove foreign objects (Photo: Provided by the hospital).
The sharp tip of the needle was found to be stuck in the lower third of the trachea, while the other end was stuck in the bronchus, so doctors performed emergency endoscopy. The foreign object was successfully removed from the airway, and the child's health is gradually stabilizing.
The patient's family said the root canal needle suddenly fell from the child's mouth into the trachea while the child was having dental work done.
This is a rare incident but according to doctors, it can cause many dangerous complications such as collapsed lung, pneumonia, or pneumothorax if not treated promptly.
