According to documents, after the Dien Bien Phu victory (May 7, 1954), at the negotiating table, signing the Geneva Agreement (July 21, 1954), the French colonialists were forced to accept a ceasefire, restoring peace in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. At this time, our country was temporarily divided into two regions, taking the 17th parallel as the boundary, the two sides agreed on a period of 300 days (from July 22, 1954 to May 17, 1955) to transfer troops to the North and South.
In the Binh Dinh area, there were 300 days to gather the troops of Inter-zone 5 to go to the North. From 1954 to 1955, the Party Committee and people of Binh Dinh thoroughly completed all the logistics work, prepared and successfully transferred more than 10,700 cadres, soldiers and other forces to gather, and repatriated compatriots to the North, on ships leaving Quy Nhon port.
On the afternoon of May 16, at the historical site of Quy Nhon port - the location of 300 days of troop movement to the North (on Xuan Dieu Street, Hai Cang Ward, Quy Nhon City), the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province held a flower offering ceremony to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the completion of troop movement to the North (May 16, 1955 - May 16, 2025).
