In response to the development requirements of the southern revolution and to promptly support the battlefields, after preparing in all aspects, on October 23, 1961, the General Command decided to establish Military Transport Group 759 (the predecessor of today's 125th Naval Brigade), opening a strategic transport route - the Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea.
For 14 years (from 1961 to April 30, 1975), the unnumbered train at sea created a legendary route, helping to successfully transport hundreds of thousands of tons of weapons and more than 80,000 cadres, soldiers, and senior cadres of the Party and army to the South and from the South to the North, promptly supplementing the source of leaders and combat commanders on the southern battlefield.

Thousands of tons of weapons were successfully transported to Ca Mau to support the southern battlefield through Ben Vam Lung thanks to unnumbered ships at sea. |
In Ca Mau, the “Unnumbered Ship” is associated with Vam Lung Wharf (where the wharf was opened). On October 11, 1962, the first unnumbered wooden ship named Phuong Dong 1, commanded by Captain Le Van Mot and Political Commissar Bong Van Dia, left K-15 Wharf in Do Son (Hai Phong) carrying 30 tons of weapons and safely transported them to Vam Lung Wharf, opening up the legendary sea route. From 1962 to 1970, the Vam Lung wharf cluster received 75 ships, with more than 4,400 tons of weapons and equipment for the southern battlefield.
On November 10, 2010, Vam Lung Wharf was recognized as a national historical-cultural relic by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The forces participating in the transport route included 12 groups and 15 individuals who were awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces, of which Group 125 was awarded twice.
With the historical stature and great contributions of the Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea, on November 26, 2024, the Prime Minister issued a Decision (No. 1473/QD-TTg) to rank the "Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea" as a special national monument, including Ben Vam Lung point of Ca Mau province.
According to comrade Nguyen Minh Luan, the ranking of the Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea as a special national monument, including the Vam Lung Wharf, is an honor and a source of pride for the Party Committee, government and people of Ca Mau province. This is also the first monument in Ca Mau province to be ranked as a special national monument.
The feats of the legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea are historical miracles, created by intelligence, patriotism, the strength of the will "Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom", the aspiration for peace, the aspiration for a brighter tomorrow. The Party Committee and people of Ca Mau would like to forever express their gratitude to the generations of cadres, soldiers, compatriots, and comrades who participated in opening the road, establishing wharves, and operating at Vam Lung Wharf and the Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea.
