
The forum aims to demonstrate the Government and the Ministry of Industry and Trade 's concern for the overseas Vietnamese business community in Australia - one of the largest overseas Vietnamese business communities in the world, while providing information on economic development, business opportunities in the country and supporting and encouraging Vietnamese businesses in Australia to invest and do business in Vietnam.
A VNA reporter reporting from Melbourne said that the forum was attended by Minister Nguyen Hong Dien; Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to Australia Pham Hung Tam; Acting Director of the Foreign Market Development Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Mr. Do Quoc Hung; Head of the Vietnam Trade Office in Australia Tran Thi Thanh My; along with leaders of a number of units of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, representatives of overseas Vietnamese business associations in Australian states and territories, as well as a number of Vietnamese business leaders in Australia.
In his opening speech, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien highly appreciated the great contributions of the Vietnamese community, especially the overseas Vietnamese business community in Australia. He emphasized that thousands of Vietnamese businessmen have been affirming their position in this Oceania country, a market with high standards of quality, transparency and sustainability. Over the past 5 years, overseas Vietnamese businessmen in Australia have invested more than 1.8 billion USD in Vietnam and brought hundreds of Vietnamese products to major Australian supermarket chains, while transferring technology and bringing to Vietnam modern management models, ERP software, blockchain traceability systems and clean food processing technology.

Minister Nguyen Hong Dien also highlighted the bright spots of the domestic economy , including Vietnam maintaining a high growth rate of more than 7% in 2024 and aiming for a growth rate of more than 8% this year before striving to increase to double digits in the following years. Notably, import and export are considered an important driving force for Vietnam's economic growth. In the first 10 months of the year, Vietnam's total import and export turnover reached more than 762 billion USD, up 17.4% over the same period last year, of which exports were nearly 391 billion USD and imports were more than 371 billion USD. Two-way import and export turnover between Vietnam and Australia reached 11.5 billion USD.
Attracting foreign direct investment has also achieved remarkable results. Vietnam has gradually gained a foothold in global supply chains and value chains. In that context, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien affirmed that promoting the resources of overseas Vietnamese - especially overseas intellectuals and businessmen - is an urgent task in the period 2025 - 2030 and the following years.
Minister Nguyen Hong Dien, on behalf of the Government and people of Vietnam, thanked overseas businessmen for their deep affection for their homeland and country; welcomed the creativity, frankness and responsibility of the Vietnamese business community and entrepreneurs in Australia. The Minister affirmed that this is a community with a tradition of patriotism, strengths in capital, technology, knowledge and practical contributions to the country. The Minister believes that, with a spirit of solidarity and responsibility, overseas businessmen can join hands to turn creative ideas and opinions shared at the forum into practical results, contributing to the realization of Vietnam's growth target by 2030 and vision 2045.
Minister Nguyen Hong Dien suggested that Vietnamese representative agencies in Australia continue to pay more attention to connection work, regularly listen to the thoughts, aspirations, proposals and contributions of the Vietnamese community in general, and Vietnamese businessmen in Australia in particular, through many forms to create connections between the overseas community and domestic enterprises, attracting more and more contributions from Vietnamese businessmen, intellectuals and scientists in Australia. The Minister hopes that overseas businessmen in Australia will regularly contribute and consult on socio-economic development, science and technology, innovation, green transformation, digital transformation, circular economy development, knowledge economy; at the same time, continue to promote the pioneering role in investing and attracting investment in Vietnam, especially in the fields of high technology, clean energy, processing, manufacturing, semiconductor technology, artificial intelligence (AI).

In his welcome speech at the forum, Ambassador Pham Hung Tam said that the Vietnam-Australia relationship is in a period of strong and comprehensive development, especially since the two countries upgraded their relationship to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in March 2024. The implementation of the Action Program for the 2024-2027 period has created a solid framework for promoting cooperation in all fields, including economic, trade, investment and tourism cooperation.
The two countries have agreed to strive to soon bring two-way trade turnover to 20 billion USD. More and more Vietnamese localities and enterprises are interested in business cooperation and investment in Australia. The Australian Government is also promoting the implementation of the Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040, as well as the Vietnam - Australia Economic Engagement Enhancement Strategy (EEES). Australian private investment funds are aiming to invest in the Southeast Asia region, including Vietnam, in areas such as infrastructure development, energy and logistics. This will contribute to the goal of doubling Australia's total investment capital in Vietnam.
The Ambassador highly appreciated the pioneering role of overseas Vietnamese businesses in Australia. These businesses not only directly participate in, but also act as a bridge in trade and investment cooperation between businesses and localities of the two countries, but are also pioneers in social and humanitarian work, regularly organizing fundraising activities to support compatriots in the country affected by natural disasters, support the sea and islands, and provide practical support to students and the Vietnamese community in Australia.
In order to update the economic development situation, new policies and business opportunities in Vietnam, Mr. Nguyen Van Hoi - Director of the Institute for Strategy and Policy Research on Industry and Trade - presented some new developments in the domestic situation, including Vietnam's official operation of the 2-level local government model. The data of the Ministry of Industry and Trade provides useful information for overseas Vietnamese businesses, reflecting that the Vietnamese economy is deeply integrating with positive results in the fields of industrial production, energy and trade. In addition, the Vietnamese Government is also actively implementing many important business orientation resolutions and business development strategies until 2030, with a long-term vision to 2050.
The discussion program listened to 10 speeches and lively, in-depth discussions from Vietnamese businessmen, highlighting the role of businesses in connecting the community at home and abroad, as well as contributing to the development of the country. The opinions not only reflect the business practices of the Australian market but also express the thoughts, aspirations and recommendations to enhance the role of Vietnamese businessmen in Australia, recommending mechanisms and policies to strengthen the connection with domestic businesses and contribute to the development of the country.
In an interview with a VNA reporter in Australia on the sidelines of the forum, Mr. Tran Ba Phuc - Member of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Chairman of the Vietnamese Entrepreneurs Association in Australia, Vice Chairman of the Overseas Vietnamese Entrepreneurs Association - said that more and more Vietnamese entrepreneurs in Australia are looking forward to investing in Vietnam. Forums like this are an opportunity for entrepreneurs to update and share information as well as express their thoughts and wishes to the Party and the State. He also welcomed Resolution 68-NQ/TW in 2025, which assesses the private economy as the most important driving force of the national economy, and said that overseas Vietnamese entrepreneurs are very excited about the new resolutions of the Government. This encourages overseas Vietnamese entrepreneurs to return to their homeland to invest more in business and accompany the country's economic development.

Meanwhile, Mr. Do Van Long - founder and CEO of Australia Blockchain - shared that he himself wants to contribute to the development of the domestic economy, especially applying technology to improve the quality and certify the origin of goods from Vietnam as well as goods from Australia, promoting trade activities between the two countries. He believes that new technologies such as AI, blockchain, IoT and technological devices are increasingly making the origin of products from both countries more transparent, contributing to the fight against counterfeit goods and improving the quality and efficiency of import and export products of Vietnam and Australia.
With 10 years of experience operating in Vietnam and being a pioneer in this technology, Mr. Do Van Long's company plans to connect with investors and professional import-export units in Australia and Vietnam to help them apply technology to the process of controlling the quality of goods, importing and exporting from Australia to Vietnam or from Vietnam to Australia.
