Athletics: Return of the Champions

Taking place in Dong Nai from November 9, the 2024 National Athletics Championship is witnessing the dominance of the top stars of each event.

Participating in the women's 20 km race walk on the morning of November 11, former national athlete Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc still showed her resilience and perseverance at the age of 34 when she finished first after 1 hour 42 minutes 30 seconds, winning the gold medal. Not only did she successfully defend the championship title she won last season, this was also the 18th time in her career that Thanh Phuc won the highest victory in her forte at the national arena.

In the men's 20 km race walk, Nguyen Thanh Ngung and Vo Xuan Vinh competed fiercely on the race track, and in the end, Thanh Ngung won the gold medal with a time of 1 hour 32 minutes 29 seconds. This is the 14th time in his career that Nguyen Thanh Ngung has won the men's 20 km race walk gold medal for Da Nang , standing shoulder to shoulder with his sister Thanh Phuc on the highest victory podium.

In the women's 100m hurdles event, two champions of the 31st and 32nd SEA Games, Bui Thi Nguyen (Army) and Huynh Thi My Tien ( Dong Nai ), competed fiercely. The final victory belonged to Huynh Thi My Tien with a time of 13 seconds 38, marking her return after a year of not competing due to changing units.

After 3 days of competition, the Hanoi delegation is temporarily leading with 5 gold medals, 4 silver medals, 3 bronze medals, followed by the Army units (4, 3, 2), Ha Tinh (3, 4, 1), Da Nang (2, 2, 3), Ho Chi Minh City (2, 2, 1), People's Police and Dong Nai (2, 1, 0)...
