Vietnamese businesses seek investment opportunities in the United States

On May 12 (local time), the Vietnamese Embassy in the United States and the US Embassy in Vietnam jointly organized the event “Connect with Vietnam” at the International Trade Center in Washington, DC with the participation of many Vietnamese enterprises and US enterprises, law firms, consultants, and banks.

According to a VNA reporter in Washington, with the theme of Cooperation - Sharing - Development, "Connecting with Vietnam" is an important event held on the sidelines of the 11th SelectUSA Investment Summit in 2025, carrying symbolic and practical significance in the effort to strengthen cooperation between Vietnam and the United States, especially in the fields of economics , finance and investment.

Attending the event on the US side were Ms. Diane Farrell, US Deputy Secretary of Commerce, US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper and representatives from the Department of State , Energy, the Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR), the governments of several states, Vietnamese enterprises with investment projects, a number of associations and US enterprises investing in Vietnam.

On the Vietnamese side, there were Deputy Minister of Finance Cao Anh Tuan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to the United States Nguyen Quoc Dung and members of the working delegation of the Ministry of Finance of Vietnam.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung emphasized the developments in Vietnam-US relations, and hoped that Vietnamese businesses would find more partners and investment opportunities in the US, thereby further tightening bilateral relations between the two sides.

In his opening speech, Deputy Minister of Finance Cao Anh Tuan affirmed that in recent times, Vietnam and the United States have had an effective economic cooperation relationship, which is a model for cooperation in the spirit of mutual benefit. The Vietnamese business delegation attending the event is diverse in composition, operating in many industries and fields such as information technology, energy, industrial production, agriculture, furniture, tourism services, and training.

The Deputy Minister expressed his belief that the coming time will be a golden time for Vietnamese enterprises to research opportunities, make new investments and expand investments in the United States, thereby opening up access to the large and promising capital and consumer markets of the United States as well as globally.

Deputy Minister Cao Anh Tuan expressed: “In this new context, I expect that US businesses with many strengths in terms of capital, reputation, management capacity, experts and high-quality human resources... will cooperate with Vietnamese businesses in the trending fields of the times such as: high technology, startups, innovation, electric vehicles, energy, finance and banking, education and training, tourism, high-efficiency agriculture... At the same time, turn Vietnam into a central and important link in your regional and global value chains”.

In her co-opening remarks, US Deputy Under Secretary of Commerce Diane Farrell highlighted the importance and special nature of the relationship between Vietnam and the United States, and appreciated the fact that the Vietnamese delegation was one of the largest delegations attending the 11th US Investment Summit 2025. According to Ms. Diane Farrell, the presence of Vietnamese enterprises shows the great potential for Vietnam's investment in the United States.

At the event “Connecting with Vietnam”, the two sides focused on exchanging and discussing investment procedures, financial resources and committed to creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese investors to seek opportunities, make new investments, and expand investment in the United States.

In addition, on the sidelines of the 11th US Investment Summit 2025 taking place from May 11-14, the Vietnamese Ministry of Finance delegation will continue to have many bilateral meetings and work with a number of US organizations, banks, and businesses such as the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), the US Export-Import Bank (US Ex-Im Bank), Intel Corporation, Meta Corporation, etc. There will be a working session with the US Treasury Department on the Agreement and Protocol on Avoidance of Double Taxation between Vietnam and the US to propose early completion of procedures for approving the entry into force of the agreement.

According to data provided by the Foreign Investment Agency, as of April 30, 2025, Vietnam has 252 investment projects in the United States with a total investment capital of 1.36 billion USD. Vietnam's investment projects are concentrated in professional, scientific and technological activities; real estate business activities; processing and manufacturing industries. Therefore, the effective Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement between Vietnam and the United States will create a legal framework to encourage and protect Vietnamese enterprises when conducting business and investing in the United States.
