Historical Mark
Quan Lan Festival, also known as the Tran Khanh Du Memorial Festival, takes place every year in the sixth lunar month. This is an occasion for people to commemorate the merits of the famous Tran Dynasty general who made great contributions in the naval battle on the Bach Dang River, defeating the Yuan-Mongol army in the 13th century.
Quan Lan Communal House – the place where the festival is held – was built during the Later Le Dynasty, an ancient architectural work, containing precious historical and cultural values. The sacred space of the communal house is a place where the national spirit and spiritual life of the coastal community converge. The festival lasts for 10 days, from the 10th to the 20th of the 6th lunar month. Of which, the main festival day (18th of the 6th lunar month) is the time when the most exciting and important activities take place.
Unique features in folk rituals and activities
The festival takes place in a solemn but also exciting atmosphere, with two main parts: the ceremony and the festival.
- Ceremony: Includes a procession, incense offering and sacrifice at the village communal house. The ceremony is solemnly held, showing respect for ancestors, especially General Tran Khanh Du.
- Festival: Exciting with many folk games imbued with the colors of the sea and islands such as: boat racing, tug of war, wrestling, swimming competition, love song... In which, the water procession and boat racing are two activities that attract a large number of people and tourists. The boats are brightly decorated, gliding in the blue sky and sea, as if recreating a part of the heroic atmosphere of the ancient battle.
Quan Lan Festival is not only a cultural event but also an opportunity for people to express their gratitude to their ancestors, pray for favorable weather, favorable fishing, and a prosperous life. Thereby, contributing to preserving and promoting the precious traditional cultural values of the coastal residents of Quang Ninh.

This is truly one of the most unique cultural festivals in the Northeast sea, worthy of being preserved and widely spread.
Besides its historical value, the festival also clearly demonstrates the religious beliefs of coastal residents. Rituals to pray for peace and worship the gods are held with the hope of favorable weather, a bountiful fishing season and a peaceful and prosperous life. This shows that the festival not only looks back to the past but also reflects the desire to live well in the present and future.
