Tourists check-in at Si Thau Chai community tourism village (Ta Leng commune)

Ta Leng Commune has 26 villages, mainly inhabited by the Dao, Mong, Thai and Kinh ethnic groups. Currently, the whole commune has 14/26 villages that meet the criteria of “bright - green - clean - beautiful”. This is not just a movement figure, but clearly reflects the efforts from the grassroots.
At the Si Thau Chai community tourism village, home to more than 60 Dao ethnic households, we easily feel the spread of cultural and civilized living space. Not only is it famous as an attractive community tourism destination with beautiful landscapes and friendly people, the village is also a typical example of implementing a new cultural lifestyle associated with environmental protection. And, Ms. Lu Thi Phuong's family is one of the pioneers. Since 2020, she and her uncle, Mr. Lu A Pao, have built a homestay "Pao Bach" to serve tourists with 2 accommodation spaces: a dormitory with a capacity of about 30 people and a comfortable private room. At the same time, flowers are planted around the yard, waste is sorted, and barns are moved to the field to preserve a clean living environment.
The food sources (livestock, poultry and vegetables) for the guests’ meals are guaranteed in quality and are all produced by her family. In addition to accommodation activities, Ms. Phuong also sells clean agricultural products and local specialties such as dried pork, wild honey, etc.
Ms. Phuong shared: “Before doing tourism services, my family only raised small-scale, free-range animals; we did not pay much attention to environmental protection. Now, this is always given special attention and implemented. Because it not only serves tourists but also protects the health of family members.”
Not only does Si Thau Chai village have a green landscape, it also preserves traditional cultural values: costumes, traditional rituals, rammed earth houses, language, etc. All households involved in tourism are committed to not affecting the landscape and maintaining a friendly and civilized attitude towards tourists. This is the “parallel” to preserve identity and build a new cultural life - the core factor for sustainable development.
Talking to us, Mr. Lu Van Tran - Deputy Head of the Department of Culture and Society of Ta Leng commune said: “In recent years, with better income, people have begun to pay attention to improving their living environment. Many households have moved their barns away from home; contributed to building an electricity system to light up the village roads. This is the result of regular propaganda, mobilization, and "hand-holding" by the commune and mass organizations. In the coming time, we will continue to mobilize people to implement the criteria for building a "bright - green - clean - beautiful" village; promote the movement "All people unite to build a cultural life", creating synchronous and sustainable changes in both the environment and community life".
To truly spread the new cultural lifestyle, Ta Leng commune will focus on building grassroots cultural institutions, maintaining the mass art and sports movement, creating a healthy playground for youth, teenagers, and women's union members. In villages with tourism potential, mobilize people to preserve their identity while developing tourism without over-commercializing and focusing on environmental protection.
When people proactively change their thinking, the government closely accompanies, and mass organizations effectively participate, the new cultural life will not only exist in the way of thinking and doing but also be clearly visible in the appearance of the new rural areas in the highlands.
