Wanted subject surrenders

Tran Minh Thuong surrendered to the police.

According to the case file, at around 1:00 a.m. on January 6, 2024, Thuong challenged Pham Van Sang to go to Tay Khanh 8 hamlet, My Hoa ward (Long Xuyen city) to use homemade knives to slash each other to resolve conflicts. To do so, Thuong invited Tran Thanh Trung (born in 2001), Nguyen Le Phuong Tay (born in 2004), Huynh Nguyen Thanh Tam (born in 1993), Do Thanh Nhan (born in 2003), Nguyen Hoang Nhut (born in 2005), Tran Van Nguyen (born in 2009), Duong Thai Khang (born in 2006) and Bach Nhut Huy (born in 2008) to bring many weapons (homemade knives, bayonets) and a support tool gun, to meet at the Phu Hoa welcome gate (Thoai Son district).

After that, the group brought weapons and went on 4 motorbikes to find Sang. When they reached Nguyen Hoang Street (My Hoa Ward), Thuong met Phan Thanh Huy (born in 2007) driving a motorbike carrying Ngo Mach Hoang Sung Minh (born in 2007). Thinking that they were Sang's group, Thuong shouted for the group to chase. Huy drove Minh away to My Xuyen market area, Thuong caught up, then used a gun to shoot Huy once in the shoulder, and once in Minh's leg, causing the motorbike to fall onto the road. Huy managed to escape, but Minh ran a short distance before Trung, Nguyen, Tay and Thuong rushed in with knives and stabbed him many times, causing Minh to die on the spot. After that, the group got on the motorbike and left the scene.

Immediately after committing the crime, Nguyen turned himself in to the police, while Trung, Tam, Nhan, Huy, Khang, Tay and Nhut were arrested one after another. Thuong fled the area to Cambodia and was wanted by the An Giang Provincial Police Investigation Agency.

On November 20, 2024, the People's Court of An Giang province sentenced defendant Trung to death, Tay to life in prison; defendants Tam, Nhan, Nhut, Nguyen, Khang and Huy to 7 to 13 years in prison for the crime of "Murder".
