This is an activity within the framework of scientific cooperation between the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) and the Russian Academy of Sciences, Far Eastern Branch (FEBRAS), marking the launch of the second joint marine survey between the two academies from October 23 to November 20, 2025 in Vietnam's waters.

This survey trip used the ship "Academician Lavrentyev" - one of the modern marine research vessels on geology, geophysics and oceanography of the Russian Federation, with the participation of 30 Russian and Vietnamese scientists.
During the survey, the delegation will carry out geophysical field measurements, collect geological and geochemical gas samples, and measure marine environmental parameters in Vietnam's sea area (stretching from north to south) with agreed stations and research points.
The objective is to update and supplement geological, geophysical, gas geochemical, and oceanographic data to serve research on seabed geological structure, gas geochemical cycle, seabed sediment formation process, ocean water layer structure and assessment of seabed mineral potential for research. After that, the survey results will be announced at the Scientific Conference, scheduled to be held on November 21, 2025 at the Institute of Earth Sciences, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, contributing to promoting the development of marine science, exploration of subsoil resources on the seabed and protection of the marine environment... between the two countries.

Speaking at the ceremony, Professor, Dr. Tran Tuan Anh, Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, highly appreciated the spirit of persistent and effective cooperation between the two academies over the past years; especially the effective implementation of the roadmap for cooperation in marine scientific research for the period 2018-2025 with 5 joint survey trips.
At the same time, he hoped that this survey trip would continue to be successful, contributing to enriching scientific data sources on geology, geophysics, resources and environment in the East Sea region, as well as enhancing research capacity and training young scientific human resources for both countries. Along with that, continue to agree on implementing marine research and survey activities. It is expected that the cooperation roadmap for the period 2026-2035 will be signed in December this year, to continue cooperation and achieve many results of high scientific and practical value, contributing practically to enhancing scientific understanding of the ocean and responding to global challenges.

Consul General of the Russian Federation in Ho Chi Minh City Timur Sirozhevich emphasized: This is a very special survey trip in promoting the development of marine science, while strengthening the long-term, effective and trustworthy relationship between the two leading scientific academies of the two countries. 2025 is also an important milestone when Vietnam and the Russian Federation celebrate the 75th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations (1950-2025). This joint survey trip is a vivid demonstration of the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation in the field of science and technology, especially marine research, exploration of underground resources under the seabed, and protection of the marine environment between the two countries over the past many years.

Consul General of the Russian Federation in Ho Chi Minh City Timur Sirozhevich said: "The ship 'Academician Lavrentiev' is equipped with many modern equipment and has gathered many young and talented scientists. We believe that this survey will bring good results. Along with the survey cooperation, we will promote technology transfer for Vietnam to develop and improve our understanding of the ocean. We wish the Vietnamese and Russian scientists and the entire crew much success."
