On the afternoon of October 24, at Cam Ranh International Port (Khanh Hoa province), the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) in coordination with the Russian Academy of Sciences, Far Eastern Branch (FEBRAS) held a ceremony to welcome the scientific research ship "Academician Lavrentyev."

This is the opening activity for the second joint marine survey between the two Academies, taking place from October 23 to November 20 in Vietnam's waters.

The survey trip aims to update and supplement data on geology, geophysics, gas geochemistry and oceanography , serving the research of seabed geological structure, gas geochemical cycle, seabed sediment formation process, ocean water layer structure and assessment of marine mineral potential. Participating in the program are 30 scientists from Vietnam and the Russian Federation, together conducting measurements, collecting samples and analyzing at many research stations from North to South.

Speaking at the ceremony, Professor, Dr. Tran Tuan Anh, Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, highly appreciated the spirit of persistent, close and effective cooperation between the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and the Russian Academy of Sciences - Far Eastern Branch over the past years.

Professor, Dr. Tran Tuan Anh believes that this survey will continue the success of 2019, contributing to enriching scientific data sources on geology, geophysics, resources and environment in the East Sea region, enhancing research capacity and training young scientific human resources for both sides.

Professor, Dr. Tran Tuan Anh thanked the relevant agencies of the two countries, especially the scientists and crews of scientific research vessels such as Academician Oparin and Academician Lavrentyey, for actively coordinating and supporting the cooperation roadmap for the period 2018 - 2025 in general and this marine geological and geophysical survey trip to be implemented smoothly.

This survey trip is not only a journey from Russia to Hanoi, but also passes through many provinces and cities of Vietnam, with the participation of many scientists and modern research facilities and equipment from the Russian Federation. The two Academies have agreed to continue implementing joint survey activities and are expected to sign a cooperation roadmap for the period 2026-2035 in December this year.

Mr. Renat Shakirov emphasized that the Russian side is particularly interested in data on seas and oceans. This survey trip takes place at a time of many important events, promising to bring many good results for scientific cooperation between the two countries.

The second survey trip continues the cooperation program launched in 2019, contributing to promoting the development of marine science, strengthening the trustful cooperative relationship between the two leading academies of science of Vietnam and the Russian Federation. The activity takes place in the context of the two countries celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1950-2025), with practical significance in enhancing scientific and technological cooperation and protecting the marine environment.

The research results of the survey will be announced at a scientific conference scheduled to be held on November 21, 2025 at the Institute of Earth Sciences, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology./.
