On the afternoon of October 24, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Manh Cuong received Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel on the occasion of attending the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime in Hanoi.
At the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong thanked Minister Abdulla Khaleel for attending this event hosted by Vietnam; and conveyed the regards of Acting Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung to Minister Abdulla Khaleel.
Expressing his delight at the stable and positive developments in the Vietnam-Maldives friendship after 50 years of establishing diplomatic relations (1975-2025), the Deputy Minister shared that Vietnam wishes to actively exploit the potential and opportunities for cooperation with Maldives, contributing to further substantive development of the bilateral relationship in the coming time.
For his part, Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel welcomed Vietnam's impressive socio -economic achievements and expressed his wish to learn from Vietnam's experience in socio-economic development.
Expressing satisfaction that over the past 50 years, the relationship between the two countries has continued to be stable and increasingly strengthened, the Minister affirmed that Maldives highly values and wishes to develop relations with Vietnam.
The two sides agreed to promote the exchange of high-level and ministerial visits, establish a dialogue mechanism, and soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the two Ministries. Based on the potential and strengths of cooperation in trade, tourism, aquaculture, agriculture , and maritime transport, the two sides agreed to actively promote the two countries' ministries and sectors to negotiate and sign agreements to create a legal foundation for cooperation in each specific field; further promote trade cooperation and people-to-people exchange between the two countries.
At the meeting, the two sides also agreed to continue close cooperation on issues of mutual concern such as responding to climate change and rising sea levels, ensuring safety, security and freedom of navigation on the basis of international law, especially the 1982 UNCLOS; and enhancing cooperation and mutual support at multilateral forums, especially at United Nations organizations./.
