The signing ceremony and High-Level Conference of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime, or the Hanoi Convention, is an opportunity for the international community to discuss solutions to enhance coordination and respond to increasingly complex global cybersecurity challenges. The Hanoi Convention complements existing UN frameworks on responsible behavior by states and affirms the importance of multilateralism in addressing transnational challenges. In particular, the Convention's emphasis on the protection of human rights and data privacy is extremely important, ensuring that efforts to combat cybercrime do not undermine fundamental freedoms.
