Life changes thanks to daring to think and daring to do
Mr. Duong Trong Hoi, a Tay ethnic, originally from Cao Bang province, came to Giang Muong village (Khanh Vinh commune) to start a business nearly 30 years ago. He served in the army for a while, then worked in a business, then quit his job to focus on developing his family's economy . From 4 hectares of land, he planted mangoes, then boldly switched to valuable fruit trees such as green-skinned grapefruit and jackfruit. Thanks to his diligence in learning techniques and accumulating experience, his garden has grown well, generating high income, helping his family stabilize their lives and raise 2 children to be successful in their studies. Not stopping there, he also opened a construction materials business, a restaurant and a concrete casting workshop, creating regular jobs for 4 local ethnic minority workers with stable incomes.

Also a person who persistently sticks to the land and the forest, Mr. Cao Xuan Huynh, a Raglai ethnic (Son Thanh village) is considered a typical example in household economic development. From nothing, he and his wife reclaimed more than 6 hectares of land, dividing it into suitable cultivation areas for each terrain: low-lying areas for growing rice, high hills for growing acacia, and flat land for growing fruit trees such as green-skinned grapefruit, Thai jackfruit, bananas... Not only that, he and his wife also raise nearly ten breeding cows, dig ponds for raising fish, raise black pigs, free-range chickens... Thanks to diligence and reasonable calculations, his family's comprehensive model brings in an average income of more than 200 million VND/year. Not only enriching his family, as a prestigious person in the community, Mr. Huynh also actively propagates, mobilizes, shares experiences, guides people to grow crops, raise livestock effectively and comply with the Party's policies and guidelines, and the State's policies and laws.
Effective models
Not only households with many years of experience, many young families in Khanh Vinh have also risen up thanks to the spirit of overcoming difficulties, accessing and effectively exploiting the support policies of the State and organizations. A typical example is the family of Mr. Mau Van Duc, a Raglai ethnic group (Nuoc Nhi village). In 2017, with 100% support for grapefruit seedlings and planting costs, Mr. Duc and his wife started to build a model of growing green-skin grapefruit with an area of 5 sao. Thanks to being guided on care techniques, combined with hard work and diligence, after only a few years, the grapefruit garden of the couple has produced stable harvests. In addition to growing grapefruit, he also dug 2 ponds with a total area of 500m² to raise fish, store irrigation water, and raise cows and poultry. Thanks to that, the family's economy is getting better and better. “With the support for the livelihood model, my wife and I have more motivation to try. Not only have we escaped poverty, my wife and I also have the means to provide our four children with a full education,” said Mr. Duc.
According to Ms. Cao Thi Huynh Nhu - Vice President of Khanh Vinh Commune Farmers' Association, in recent times, the economic development movement among ethnic minorities in the area has had many positive changes. People are increasingly proactive in learning techniques, boldly converting crops and livestock to suit natural conditions. Many fruit tree planting models such as green-skinned grapefruit, jackfruit, banana, durian... have been and are affirming their effectiveness, contributing to improving life, creating a new look for the mountainous countryside.
The fruit-laden orchards and the bright smiles on the faces of the people are vivid evidence of the changes in Khanh Vinh today. With the will to overcome difficulties, the spirit of persistent work and the support of the government, the people here are building a prosperous life every day, contributing to the locality's journey of sustainable poverty reduction.
