On the morning of September 24th, multiple tsunamis struck the area south of Tokyo, Japan, following a 5.9 magnitude earthquake off the coast of the country.

According to the Associated Press, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) reported that a 50cm high tsunami occurred on Hachijo Island at 8:58 a.m. local time (6:58 a.m. Vietnam time). Additionally, a 10cm high wave was recorded on Miyake Island.
Earlier, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) also issued a tsunami warning for the Izu and Ogasawara Islands (southern Japan), urging residents to stay away from coastal areas after a 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck offshore that morning.
The aforementioned earthquake occurred at 8:14 local time (6:14 AM Vietnam time), with its epicenter located in the sea near Torishima Island (part of the Izu Islands) at a depth of 10 km.
In a warning issued for the Izu and Ogasawara Islands, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) emphasized that tsunami waves up to 1 meter high were rapidly forming and could strike the coastal area on the morning of September 24.
There have been no reports of casualties from this earthquake so far.
Located along the " Pacific Ring of Fire," one of the world's most active tectonic belts for earthquakes, Japan experiences approximately 1,500 earthquakes each year, the majority of which are minor.
