The family of Ho Thi Roi (born in 1980), in Trum village, Ba Tang commune, used to have a very difficult life. The family had many children, the husband and wife did not have stable jobs, these things became "barriers" in this woman's journey to escape poverty. In 2023, with the attention of women's associations at all levels, Ms. Roi was on the list of people supported with livelihood models from the program "Accompanying women in the border areas" for the period 2021 - 2025.

Here, she was given 2 breeding goats. She and her husband quickly built a solid barn, actively asked for more experience in raising goats and diligently fattened the goats. After about 10 months, the goats reproduced and developed into a herd of 5. In addition to raising goats, the couple also planted about 1.5 hectares of cassava per year. “The goat model has helped my husband and I earn more income to cover expenses and send our children to school. Life has become less difficult. I would like to thank the Provincial Women's Union and the Provincial Border Guard Command for helping and accompanying my family and the disadvantaged in the area,” Ms. Roi shared.

For Ms. Ho Thi Dau (born in 1997), in Hun village, Ba Tang commune, being given a livelihood model has given her more hope of escaping poverty. Sympathizing with the situation of a young woman who works hard to raise her young children, the Women's Union of Ba Tang commune created conditions for her to receive a livelihood model from the program "Accompanying women in the border areas" in 2024. From the 2 pigs initially received, under the care of her husband and wife, they have grown to 4 pigs. "I plan to sell this litter of pigs to cover family expenses and save some money to continue investing in buying breeding pigs to develop the livestock herd," said Ms. Dau.

The Women's Union of Ba Tang commune currently has 341 members. In recent years, thanks to the companionship and support of the government, the lives of many women have improved, and many women have risen out of poverty. From the program "Accompanying women in the border areas" for the period 2021 - 2025, 220 gifts, 1 house, 15 hygienic toilets, 14 livelihood models, computers, and wells were given to women's union members of Ba Tang border commune with a total amount of nearly 500 million VND.

Vice President of the Women's Union of Ba Tang Commune, Ho Thi Meng, said: "The support from the program "Accompanying women in the border areas" has helped women increase their income and stabilize their lives. Women are bold in developing their economy , confidently contributing their voices to the overall development of the locality, enhancing their role and position in society, gradually eliminating gender inequality."

Launched by the Vietnam Women's Union in coordination with the Border Guard Command since 2018, "Accompanying women in border areas" has become a meaningful program, adding strength, creating practical changes for women in border areas; contributing to building a stable and strong border.

Not only women in Ba Tang commune, in the period of 2021 - 2025, the total resources of 7.7 billion VND were used effectively by the program, focusing on supporting members, poor women and children in difficult circumstances in border communes.

In particular, the Provincial Women's Union and the Provincial Border Guard Command have coordinated to deploy more than 100 diverse livelihood models such as: raising cows, goats, breeding pigs, growing indigenous dwarf bananas, developing the Ra Du rice model, safe vegetable gardens, planting raw material forests, growing cassava, rubber, coffee...

Choosing livelihood support suitable to the climate and soil conditions of the border communes has helped the models develop effectively, creating conditions for women to rise up. Also during this period, the two units have successfully implemented the project "Supporting livelihood recovery for communities vulnerable to COVID - 19" sponsored by Care International, providing 9,750 breeding chickens and 8,472 geese to 743 households in Lia and Thuan communes; disbursing capital to support 32 poor women's households in A Bung and A Ngo communes (Dakrong district) to develop their livelihoods. At the same time, preferential loan projects have been implemented, supporting members to develop production plans, convert crops and livestock, access markets, and proactively develop household economies.

In addition to economic development, propaganda and mobilization work has been effectively coordinated and implemented, contributing to raising awareness and responsibility of women members and people in border areas in implementing the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws. Women actively participate in the task of protecting security and order, building a peaceful , friendly and developed border.

Chairwoman of the Quang Tri Provincial Women's Union Tran Thi Thanh Ha affirmed that the program "Accompanying women in the border areas" has been bringing positive changes to its members. Promoting the achieved results, in the coming time, the Provincial Women's Union and the Provincial Border Guard Command will coordinate to strengthen propaganda and raise awareness; promoteeducation and training.

In particular, continue to implement livelihood models suitable to local conditions such as: raising cows and goats, growing fruit trees, coffee, rubber and economic forests; improve infrastructure and living conditions.

“The Provincial Women's Union and the Provincial Border Guard Command will coordinate to monitor and evaluate the implemented activities and models to monitor the progress and effectiveness of the models and programs, thereby promptly adjusting the activities accordingly.

Along with that, we need to replicate advanced models and examples in supporting women, especially ethnic minority women, to create motivation and spread the spirit of advancement in the community," said Ms. Ha.
