Launched in 2018 by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union in coordination with the Border Guard Command, the program "Accompanying women in the border areas" for the period 2021 - 2025 has supported, cared for, and improved the lives of people in 100 extremely disadvantaged communes of 30 border and island provinces.
After 5 years of implementation, the total resources mobilized by the accompanying units to implement the program reached more than 294 billion VND, contributing to improving knowledge, skills, and responsibility for protecting national border security and sovereignty for members and women, building models and activities to improve spiritual life, support livelihoods, and social security for people; consolidating and building the association organization, developing members, supporting equipment, and improving the capacity of grassroots women's association officials.
In Quang Tri province, in the past 5 years, through the effective coordination between the Provincial Women's Union, the Provincial Border Guard and the support of the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Union, the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Entrepreneurs Association, the Bac Ninh Provincial Women's Union and many generous individuals, the mobilization channels have been diversified, the scope of beneficiaries has been expanded and the sustainability of support programs has been enhanced, with the total value of mobilized resources reaching over 4.2 billion VND. The total budget for mobilizing resources during this period, nearly 7.7 billion VND, has been used effectively.
In particular, the association at all levels focused on coordinating to organize many meaningful activities such as "Spring connection, Tet love", "Shared hearts towards women in the border areas", "Accompanying women in the border areas"... Presenting 1,650 gifts and cash to poor women, scholarships for children, bicycles, water sterilizers, sanitation works, livelihood models, necessities... with a total value of more than 1.9 billion VND.
Mobilize and receive support from international organizations such as: Peace Tree Vietnam, Plan International, Care International Vietnam; effectively exploit resources from the text message campaign to support the program "Accompanying women in the border areas" to deploy more than 100 diverse livelihood models such as: raising cows, goats, breeding pigs, growing indigenous dwarf bananas, developing Ra Du rice models, safe vegetable gardens, planting raw material forests, growing cassava, rubber, coffee... suitable to the climate and soil conditions of each border commune.
In addition, over the past 5 years, the whole province has had over 1,025 women members participating in border and border marker self-management groups; proactively detecting and providing 854 valuable sources of information, supporting functional forces to promptly handle situations, contributing to maintaining security and order in border areas. The work of developing members continues to be focused on.
In the 2021-2025 period, the province has recruited 6,500 new members, including 1,472 ethnic minority women, expanding the association's network to remote villages and hamlets, gradually improving the quality of life, creating stable and sustainable livelihoods for women and people in border areas.
