Unnamed sources within Man Utd have confirmed Ratcliffe's visit was planned in advance and included a meeting with Amorim. However, the team's disappointing form remains high on the agenda, as Ratcliffe looks to address the issues Amorim is facing at the club.

Man Utd have had a difficult start to the season, winning just one of their opening four Premier League games, including a heavy 3-0 defeat to Man City on September 14. The team also suffered an embarrassing exit from the Carabao Cup to League Two side Grimsby Town in August.
The Portuguese coach has faced criticism for sticking to his preferred line-up. Although the team has shown small signs of improvement, results have continued to suffer despite a summer spending spree that included the £200m signing of a new attack in Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha.
Man Utd host Chelsea at Old Trafford on 20 September in a game that Amorim feels is crucial. The team currently sits 14th in the Premier League, having finished 15th last season and missed out on European football after losing in the Europa League final.
Man Utd appointed Amorim last autumn after sacking Erik Ten Hag, but Amorim has seen results decline. Both Amorim and Ratcliffe have previously said they had a frank exchange of views.

Speaking in March, amid a string of poor results, Ratcliffe told The Times that he believed Amorim was the right man to take United forward. "To be honest, I really like Ruben. He's a very thoughtful guy. Every time I go to the training ground, I talk to Ruben. I sit down for a coffee with him and tell him what's wrong, and he tells me to go away. I like him," Ratcliffe said.
After the Europa League final defeat in May, Amorim said he would leave the club “without any discussion about compensation” if the board felt he was not the right man for the job. After the defeat to Grimsby, he said: “If we don’t show up, you can feel that something needs to change and you won’t change 22 players again.”
After the defeat to Man City, Amorim once again suggested that the club's board may have to sack him if they want to see a change in tactical approach.
"I understand the criticism and I accept it. It's not the record you should have at Man Utd. There are a lot of things to say. You don't know what happened in these months, but I accept it. I will not change. When I want to change my philosophy, I will change. If not, you have to change. We talk about it every game we lose. I don't believe in the system or anything else. I believe in my way of playing and I will play my way until I want to change," Amorim said.
