According to Bild , the incident took place after Dortmund's disappointing draw in round 1 of the 2025/26 Bundesliga. Right in the tunnel of St.Pauli's Millerntor-Stadion after the match, Jobe Bellingham's parents - Mr. Mark and Mrs. Denise - stood waiting to question Dortmund's Sports Director, Sebastian Kehl.

Mr. Mark Bellingham expressed his disappointment with Jobe's early substitution and the team's overall performance. Bellingham's father even sought to meet directly with coach Kovac to express his frustration. In response, Dortmund issued a ban on Jobe Bellingham's family from entering the dressing room area, in order to protect the team's privacy.

“We have built a relationship of trust with the Bellingham family over many years,” said chief executive Lars Ricken. “They flew in specially to watch Jobe’s debut and wanted to see their son after the game. Having an emotional conversation with Sebastian is normal in this relationship, but we will not let a similar situation happen again.”

Jobe Bellingham moved from Sunderland to Dortmund for £27.8m this summer. He was substituted by Niko Kovac early in the second half of his Bundesliga debut against St. Pauli. After Jobe left the pitch, Dortmund led 3-1 until the 85th minute but were forced to draw 3-3 after Filippo Mane was sent off, leaving the team short.

In the past, when Jude Bellingham was playing for Dortmund, Mr. Mark and Mrs. Denise also entered the team's dressing room, giving many tactical suggestions to the team's management.
