Domestic pepper prices updated on the afternoon of April 30, 2025

Experts say pepper prices may increase slightly in the short term thanks to stable export demand and reduced output due to prolonged drought in the Central Highlands and Southeast. At the same time, signals from international markets are also opening up new opportunities for this industry.

Currently, there are many factors affecting pepper prices, including: Limited supply: Global pepper production, especially in major producing countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia and India, is decreasing sharply due to disease, adverse weather and crop conversion. This shortage of supply has pushed pepper prices up.

Increased demand: Global demand for pepper remains high, especially from major markets such as the US, EU and China. In the first two months of 2025, Vietnam exported more than 27,400 tons of pepper, of which the US accounted for 21.5% of total output. However, the imposition of new tariffs from the US is causing many concerns for the pepper industry.

Market psychology: Farmers and exporters are currently tending to hold onto their goods and not sell them in large quantities, leading to limited circulation and prices continuing to remain high.

According to a report from Ptexim, demand in key markets such as Europe and Asia is gradually recovering, especially the US and China. Although the amount of pepper exported from Vietnam to China in the first quarter of 2025 increased by nearly 88% compared to the same period last year, this figure is actually lower than in 2023. This is more a strategy to stockpile goods than a manifestation of real demand surge.

Meanwhile, in the US market, many long-term orders for the third and fourth quarters of 2025 have been booked, reflecting confidence in the prospect of continued price increases and concerns about supply shortages. However, most Vietnamese exporters remain cautious and are not in a hurry to sign long-term contracts to anticipate the price increase trend in 2025 - 2026.
