New forecast for the low-pressure area in the northern South China Sea.

(Chinhphu.vn) - The National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting stated that currently, on June 9th, a low-pressure trough with its axis at approximately 15-18 degrees North latitude is connected to a low-pressure area over the northern part of the East Sea.

Báo Chính PhủBáo Chính Phủ09/06/2025

At 7:00 AM on June 9th, its position was approximately 17.0-18.0 degrees North latitude; 117.2-118.2 degrees East longitude.

The forecast for the next 24 hours indicates that the low-pressure area will move slowly westward and has the potential to strengthen into a tropical depression.

On June 9th, both day and night, the northern South China Sea (including the waters around the Hoang Sa archipelago), the central and southern South China Sea (including the waters around the Truong Sa archipelago), the sea area from Binh Dinh to Ca Mau, Ca Mau to Kien Giang, and the Gulf of Thailand will experience heavy rain and thunderstorms. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, strong gusts of wind (level 6-7), and waves exceeding 2 meters in height.

Additionally, in the sea area from Binh Thuan to Ca Mau , the southern part of the central East Sea, and the southern East Sea (including the sea area around the Spratly Islands), there will be strong southwest winds of force 5, sometimes force 6, gusting to force 7-8, with rough seas. Wave height will be 1.5-3 meters.

Level of natural disaster risk due to strong winds at sea: Level 1.

According to the Center, all vessels operating in these areas are at high risk of being affected by tornadoes, strong winds, and large waves.

In a bulletin issued at 8:30 AM on June 9th, the Center reported that over the past three hours (from 5 AM to 8 AM on June 9th), the provinces of Lai Chau and Dien Bien experienced moderate to heavy rainfall, with some areas receiving as much as Nam Ban (60.2 mm, Lai Chau) and Pa Ham (62.6 mm, Dien Bien). Soil moisture models indicate that some areas in these provinces are nearing saturation (over 85%) or have reached saturation.

The center warns that in the next 3-6 hours, the aforementioned provinces will continue to experience rain with cumulative rainfall generally ranging from 20-40 mm, and in some places exceeding 60 mm.

Over the next 6 hours, there is a risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams, and landslides on slopes in the aforementioned provinces, especially in the districts of Muong Te, Nam Nhun, Sin Ho, and Than Uyen in Lai Chau province, and Muong Cha, Tua Chua, and Tuan Giao in Dien Bien province.

Warning regarding the level of risk from flash floods, landslides, and land subsidence caused by rain or runoff: Level 1.

According to the Center, flash floods and landslides can have very negative impacts on the environment, threatening people's lives; causing localized traffic congestion, affecting the movement of vehicles; destroying public and economic infrastructure, causing damage to production and socio-economic activities.

The center recommends that local authorities take note of and review bottlenecks and vulnerable locations in the area to implement preventive and response measures.

From June 10th, the heatwave in the area from Nghe An to Quang Ngai will gradually subside.

On June 8th, the area from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen experienced hot weather, with some places experiencing intense heat. Maximum temperatures generally ranged from 35-37 degrees Celsius, with some areas exceeding 37 degrees Celsius, such as: Nhu Xuan (Thanh Hoa) 37.2 degrees, Tuong Duong (Nghe An) 38.4 degrees, Huong Son (Ha Tinh) 38.2 degrees, Tuyen Hoa (Quang Binh) 37.6 degrees, Quang Ngai City (Quang Ngai) 37.3 degrees, etc. The lowest relative humidity was generally 55-65%.

According to the center, on June 9th, the area from Nghe An to Quang Ngai experienced hot weather, with some places experiencing intense heat. From June 10th, the heatwave in the area from Nghe An to Quang Ngai will gradually subside.

Warning of natural disaster risk level due to heatwave: Level 1.

According to the Center, due to the heatwave, with some areas experiencing intense heat combined with low humidity, there is a high risk of explosions and fires in residential areas due to increased electricity demand, and a risk of forest fires. In addition, the heatwave can cause dehydration, exhaustion, and heatstroke in people who are exposed to high temperatures for extended periods.

The center notes that the temperature forecast in heatwave reports and the actual perceived outdoor temperature can differ by 2-4 degrees, or even more, depending on surface conditions such as concrete or asphalt.
