In recent days, there have been over 60 flights landing every day in Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang Province.
Of these, about 30 international flights from Europe, America, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan - China... carried over 10,000 visitors to the "pearl island". Including domestic and international visitors arriving by sea, Phu Quoc welcomes about 20,000 visitors every day.
With the booming number of tourists, most of the 4-5 star hotels or resorts from budget to luxury in Phu Quoc have been fully booked for over a month. Of these, foreign guests account for 70%.
Ms. Tran Thu Thuy - owner of a resort in Bai Truong area, Duong To commune, Phu Quoc city - said: "For more than a month now, our resort's room occupancy rate has always been over 90%, even during the New Year holiday, we were fully booked since last month. Previously, this situation only happened once in the summer of 2022, when the COVID-19 pandemic had just ended."

According to a survey of more than 40 accommodation establishments in Bai Kem and Hoang Hon town in Phu Quoc, during the recent Christmas and New Year holidays, from high-end establishments such as New World Phu Quoc Resort, Premier Residences Phu Quoc Emerald Bay... to 3-4 star hotels or mini hotels, most of them were fully booked. For the past few months, the room booking rate in this area has never dropped below 80%.
Statistics from online booking platform Agoda show that Phu Quoc has recently achieved high room occupancy rates thanks to a large number of international visitors from South Korea, Russia and European countries. In addition, according to Booking.com, the "pearl island" is in the top 3 destinations most searched by Vietnamese tourists during this Tet holiday - an increase of 180% compared to the same period last year.
During the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday, statistics from local tourism associations show that the 5-star hotel segment in Phu Quoc has an average occupancy rate of 85%. Meanwhile, the 4-star segment in the central area is almost fully booked.
The leader of Kien Giang Province's Department of Tourism said that 2024 will be a year of strong recovery and boom in Phu Quoc tourism. The number of visitors to Phu Quoc in 2024 is estimated at approximately 6 million - double the golden age of 2019 and 10 times higher than in 2014.
Compared to 10 years ago, we can see how Phu Quoc tourism has "transformed". From having no 5-star hotels, up to now, the "pearl island" has 700 accommodation establishments with over 24,000 rooms, including 29 4-5 star hotels with over 13,000 rooms. Along with the advantage of an ideal location, beautiful natural scenery, visa exemption policy for international visitors up to 30 days and increasingly invested tourism infrastructure, Phu Quoc has the opportunity to become a "tourist paradise", competitive enough with famous destinations in the region and the world .
