Participating in the journey to the source called "Following the footsteps of the 1975 Spring General Offensive and Uprising", organized by the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee recently, the Lac Viet singing group was recognized and warmly cheered by the audience wherever they went.

Because, in the colorful and constantly changing picture of modern music , the appearance of Lac Viet singing group is like a strange breeze - rustic but solid, classic but very fresh.

People's Artist Ta Minh Tam commented: "Lac Viet does not follow temporary tastes, does not focus on short-term entertainment trends, but chooses a challenging and valuable path to honor traditional music, especially revolutionary music, through the A cappella style and vocal techniques they were trained at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music".

From the Conservatory to Life

Lac Viet singing group is a group of four boys who were trained at the Vocal Faculty - Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music: Trung Kiet (tenor, group leader), Nguyen Truc (baritone), Hoang Nam (bass) and The Hung (tenor).

Each person has a different voice, and even more so, they do not have the same starting point, but they have met in harmony in musical thinking and a deep love for Vietnamese musical values.

For them, forming a singing group is not only for performance, but also a place to work seriously, practice, exchange and learn from what they have learned in the classroom.

Singer Trung Kiet, the group leader, shared: "We do not want to waste the years of formal training at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music. We want to bring academic vocal techniques closer to the audience through a new, familiar yet artistically profound performance."

A cappella – the sound of patriotism

At the music exchange performance program held in Gia Lai, the Lac Viet singing group performed the song "Light Up, Baby" by musician Huy Thuc, receiving enthusiastic cheers from the audience.

And on the occasion of the great celebration of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), the Lac Viet group implemented a plan to promote traditional songs on social networks and created a meaningful echo, which was a series of 4 A cappella clips performing typical revolutionary songs, along with an MV called "New Day City" (composed by Vu Minh Duc).

Without background music, without flashy images, just with their voices blending technique and emotion, they convinced listeners with their most sincere words.

In particular, the mashup clip "Uncle is marching with us - Truong Son night misses Uncle" has attracted nearly 1.2 million views on TikTok, creating a strong viral effect, especially in the young Gen Z audience community - people who seem to be unfamiliar with "red" music.

Other clips such as: "The sound of pestles on Bom Bo squirrel" and "The sound of singing in the Pac Bo forest" also quickly reached hundreds of thousands of views and likes, becoming clear evidence of the new vitality of revolutionary music in the digital age.

Singer Nguyen Truc shared: "A cappella is not only a style but also an artistic statement of the Lac Viet group. We want to show that traditional music, especially revolutionary music, is not old or outdated.

If performed with passion, technique and creativity appropriate to the times, those songs can still touch the hearts of today's audiences - especially the youth."

The initial success did not stop the group. Lac Viet has planned to continue producing a series of short A cappella clips for important holidays such as: July 27 - War Invalids and Martyrs Day, September 2 - National Day and further a series of activities lasting until the end of 2025.

In particular, the group is preparing to release two revolutionary music albums on digital music platforms - a professional and methodical step, marking the group's maturity and promise to preserve and spread traditional music to the masses.
