Austria is one of the destinations of 2023
The first perception from UNWTO's data and information is that world tourism in 2023 has not only recovered but also recovered quite strongly, after being severely damaged by the Covid-19 pandemic. According to UNWTO, the ten most popular tourist destinations are France, Spain, the US, Turkey, Italy, Mexico, the UK, Germany, Greece and Austria. Looking at that, it can be seen that only North America and Europe are the regions. UNWTO believes that tourists are generally still concerned about security and safety - security is due to war and violent conflicts, safety is due to epidemics. The Asian region, especially China, still makes tourists hesitate. But from next year, it could be very different, because the Covid-19 pandemic is no longer a major threat to the health of people and tourists in Asian countries.
Looking at the world's tourism situation in 2023, two outstanding things can be seen. First, there is no new attraction for tourists, but only traditional tourism values in countries and territories around the world that attract tourists. For example, France still has its historical and cultural characteristics. The United States is still a natural landscape. Germany is still a long-standing architectural work. Austria is still a mountainous region suitable for walking in the summer and autumn as well as for winter sports ... It seems that in which season, what you want, where to travel to suit still plays the most decisive role in tourists' choice of destination.
The second thing is that the way tourists organize and carry out their trips has also changed a lot. Tourists have increasingly taken advantage of artificial intelligence to have more diverse information, attach importance to doing procedures remotely and online to limit contact, and want to "personalize their trips" more than accepting tours offered by travel companies in advance. Tourists also increasingly value "Sustainable tourism" with the meaning of tourism that protects the ecological environment, tourism that respects the identity and characteristics of historical and cultural traditions. And of course, the trend of "staying longer at a lower cost" is indispensable.
At the end of last year and the beginning of this year, there were many predictions that 2023 would be a year of "explosive growth" for the world tourism industry. In fact, the current developments in world tourism have not confirmed this prediction. The world's political and security fluctuations in 2023 have had a negative impact on world tourism in general and will certainly continue to have a significant impact on world tourism in the coming year and the time to come, causing the most directly affected areas to be Russia, Ukraine and surrounding countries or in the Middle East and the Gulf region.
From that, it can be seen that the most prominent issues for world tourism in the coming year are to most effectively exploit the unique tourism potential of each place, create new tourism products with high value in all aspects to attract tourists, turn "Sustainable Tourism" into a tourism brand and catch up with new trends of world tourism in the coming time.
