Experiential tourism associated with coastal afforestation

BDK - In recent years, the province has welcomed many tourist tours associated with tree planting and forestation activities along rivers, coasts, and alluvial plains to prevent erosion and adapt to climate change. Through this, it wants to send a message to the community to join hands to protect the environment. In particular, for businesses today, focusing on environmental protection is one of the three mandatory standards in the ESG standard set (abbreviation for Environmental, Social and Governance).

Join hands to protect the environment

Recognizing the importance of the tree planting program to contribute to environmental protection, this year, Ho Chi Minh City enterprises have chosen the solution of organizing for the company's staff to go to coastal provinces affected by natural disasters and climate change such as Ben Tre for experiential tourism combined with coastal tree planting, in Thanh Phong commune, Thanh Phu district.

After the combined tourism and forest planting trip in Tan My commune, Ba Tri district in 2024, this year, Behn Meyer Vietnam Company continued to return to the coastal area of Ben Tre province with an excited spirit, everyone was trying to plant as many trees as possible. Mr. Duong Thanh Dong - Head of Human Resources Administration Department of Behn Meyer Vietnam Company said: The company determined that this is a meaningful activity for the local community in particular and for sustainable development for a green Vietnam in the future; it haseducational value on environmental protection awareness and keeping nature green. That is the reason why the company's staff actively planted 300 sea grape trees in the program on June 7, 2025, at Thanh Phong beach.

Joining many businesses in implementing this tree planting program, Mr. Hoang Thanh Hai - Human Resources Director of Jotun Paint Vietnam Co., Ltd. said: "The company's members are very happy and excited to participate in these meaningful activities, contributing to environmental protection, connecting the community and helping people have a green, clean space."

According to Mr. Hai, the sustainable development strategy of the company is that in addition to providing quality products, community activities such as tree planting and environmental protection are always prioritized by the company. Through this, it aims to both educate and raise awareness, spread the message and together carry out meaningful actions related to environmental protection.

Under the cool, gentle sunshine on a weekend morning in June, Mr. Hai said: "Early this morning, I have planted more than 10 trees, but because of the nice weather, I still want to plant more." Following his parents to Ben Tre beach, Hoang Le Duc, who had just finished primary school, has set a record with the number of trees he planted by himself, up to 35. He said he was instructed on how to plant trees so that they grow well, such as removing the plastic bag first, then placing the tree properly and covering it with soil.

Towards sustainable development

Ms. Bui Thi Thuy Hang, from SPS Vietnam Company, said that this is the second time SPS Vietnam Company has participated in the tree planting program. In 2024, the company planted trees in Can Gio (Ho Chi Minh City) and this year it is an honor to participate in this activity in Ben Tre. “This is an activity within the company's ESG program. The company is committed to continuing to implement and expand similar activities in the future, with the desire to spread the message of environmental protection to everyone,” Ms. Hang said.

ESG is a set of standards used to assess the sustainability and responsibility of a business, not only focusing on financial performance but also considering the business's impact on the environment, social contributions and internal management methods. A business that wants to develop export markets and sustainability must have well-rated ESG standards.

Innotour Tourism Service Trading Company Limited (Innotour) has been organizing tree planting programs for many years in localities with coastal areas and riverbanks that have been eroded by the impact of climate change. Mr. Tran Chi Cong - General Director of the company said: The tree planting program is organized to promote the spirit of community responsibility, raise awareness of environmental protection among staff, employees and related parties. This is a meaningful activity, contributing to building a green - clean - beautiful working environment and spreading the message of sustainable tourism development.

Since 2022, the company has implemented similar tours such as tree planting tours combined with eco-tourism, volunteer tours, tours for businesses, etc. The tree planting tour program is considered an effective multi-dimensional model, both in terms of environmental value, brand communication and community connection. Specifically, it has contributed to greening bare land, improving the ecosystem at destinations, raising awareness and changing positive behavior of tourists towards environmental protection and sustainable development. Some tree planting sites have become models in combining conservation and eco-tourism development. In terms of communication and branding effectiveness, this program has contributed to affirming the company's image as a pioneer in green tourism, responsible for the environment and society.

According to the program, businesses have planted 1,300 sea grape trees on an area of 1 hectare. This is a new type of tree in the Ben Tre coastal area, with the function of retaining soil and blocking wind.

“The Management Board is very excited to connect units to participate in forest planting on the coast of Thanh Phu district. In recent times, the province's coastline has been affected by climate change, causing severe erosion and forest death. Of which, 18km of coastline has been eroded, concentrated in Thanh Phu, Ba Tri and Binh Dai districts. Forest planting activities are meaningful in connecting and accompanying the locality in protecting the forest environment, preventing landslides, coastal erosion and responding to climate change. Hopefully, in the near future, units will have the opportunity to return to the province to review the results in the planting area, as well as spread the message calling on more businesses to continue implementing meaningful programs for a green Ben Tre and a green Vietnam”.
