Vietnam tourism recovers impressively after typhoon Yagi

October 27, digital travel platform Agoda said traveler interest in key northern Vietnam areas remains positive following the damage caused by Typhoon Yagi , which made landfall on September 7.

Ha Long Bay is a favorite destination for both domestic and international tourists when traveling to northern Vietnam.

Agoda’s booking search volume shows that check-ins from August to October 2024 in popular Vietnamese destinations such as Hanoi , Sa Pa, Ha Giang, Ha Long Bay, Hai Phong and Cat Ba increased by 4% compared to the same period in 2023, reflecting steady interest in these locations.

“We expect the number of tourists in August to be higher than October as it is near the end of the summer holidays and is also a peak month for families to travel together. Agoda believes that tourists will gradually return to these destinations once the post-storm clean-up work is completed,” said Mr. Vu Ngoc Lam, Country Director of Agoda Vietnam.

In addition, data from Agoda also shows that Vietnam tourism is having many positive changes as the number of searches about Vietnam from international tourists has increased in the last 3 months of travel.

July witnessed search volume to Vietnam up 4% year-on-year. Meanwhile, August data recorded a strong 31% increase in tourist interest. Notably, September saw a boom in searches with an 84% increase year-on-year as international travelers were scrambling to find destinations for Christmas and New Year.

Agoda's data on the increasing trend of searching for accommodation is completely similar to the data just released by the General Statistics Office, the number of tourists coming to Vietnam in the first 9 months of the year is 43% higher than the same period in 2023. With 12.7 million international visitors, this number has surpassed the total number of visitors for the whole year of 2023.
