Continue to innovate and develop Bac Giang journalism strongly in the digital age

BAC GIANG - Along with the revolutionary press of our country, Bac Giang press was born very early and clearly demonstrated its mission on the information and propaganda front. Over the periods, the press agencies, the Journalists Association and the team of members and journalists of the province have always strived to overcome difficulties and challenges, excellently completing their tasks, contributing to the successful implementation of the local political tasks.

Proud of glorious tradition

In line with the flow of our country's press, in response to the requirements and demands of the revolutionary cause, in January 1941, the Provincial Party Committee published the Phuc Quoc newspaper to disseminate the Party's policies and guidelines, calling on the masses to prepare for an uprising to seize power. This event marked the birth and strong development of Bac Giang's press.

After Phuc Quoc Newspaper, in Bac Giang, many other newspapers and forms of propaganda were born to participate in propagating and encouraging the entire people to rise up and gain power successfully in August 1945. Then, in the fire of the resistance war against French colonialism and American imperialism, Bac Giang press truly became a special force. In the midst of difficulties and challenges, imbued with Uncle Ho's teaching: "Press cadres are also revolutionary soldiers. Pens and paper are their sharp weapons", the local press team did not fear hardships and dangers, always staying close to villages, fields, construction sites, factories, battlefields to produce articles and radio programs that were hot with the production and fighting atmosphere of our army and people, contributing to the cause of national liberation struggle, building and defending the homeland and country.

Entering the period of innovation, especially in recent years, with constant efforts and innovation, the province's press agencies have really transformed strongly. The application of information technology, digital transformation of newspapers, research and implementation of editorial management models, and application of technology in the production of radio and television programs have been focused on, creating a comprehensive change in propaganda tasks. Currently, Bac Giang Newspaper publishes 5 daily newspapers, Saturday newspapers and end-of-month newspapers, with an average circulation of more than 15,000 copies/issue.

Bac Giang e-newspaper promotes the strength of multimedia information, often in the top of the local Party newspapers with the highest readership nationwide. The provincial Radio and Television Station broadcasts television 24 hours a day, radio 14 hours a day. Song Thuong Literature and Arts Magazine maintains dozens of attractive pages and columns with many genres.

The provincial press agencies have performed well the task of propagating the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws; the policies, tasks and leadership solutions of the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Council and the Provincial People's Committee; vividly reflecting political events and socio-economic achievements; discovering and encouraging patriotic emulation movements, promoting advanced models, good people and good deeds in all fields. At the same time, they have promptly reflected on the limitations and new problems arising in the implementation of the Party Committee's policies and the direction of the authorities at all levels; actively refuted the wrong arguments of hostile forces, fought against violations of the law, and contributed to orienting ideology and public opinion. Bac Giang press has increasingly demonstrated its role as a forum for all classes of people, a bridge of information between the Party, the government and the people in the province.

Bac Giang Newspaper was awarded the Second and Third Class Independence Medals, the First, Second and Third Class Labor Medals; the Provincial Radio and Television Station was awarded the Third Class Independence Medal, the First, Second and Third Class Labor Medals. The Provincial Journalists Association was awarded the Third Class Labor Medal.

The Bac Giang Journalists Association, established in 1972, has performed well its role in gathering and motivating members and journalists to work enthusiastically and creatively, and to practice their profession in accordance with the law and professional ethics. Under the bombs and bullets of the enemy or natural disasters and epidemics, generations of journalists have always been steadfast on the propaganda front. Up to now, local journalists have still been intact during the days when the Covid-19 epidemic broke out in the province in 2021. Although they had to work hard to prevent and fight the epidemic right in their own agencies, and at many times dozens of officials and members were infected, the press agencies still kept their lights on all night, regularly providing information to the public. Or during natural disasters and floods, the journalism team went to the most difficult and dangerous places to perform their duties, contributing to protecting the safety of the lives and property of the collective and the people.

In recognition of the achievements, press agencies, the Provincial Journalists Association and many members were awarded many noble prizes; many journalists and members won prestigious press awards such as the National Press Award, the Golden Hammer and Sickle Award, the Dien Hong Award... which have practically contributed to enhancing the position and prestige of the Association and the provincial press agencies in social life and among colleagues nationwide.

Mastering technology

Our country is comprehensively promoting the process of innovation, industrialization, modernization, and international integration for rapid and sustainable development. In that general picture, Bac Giang province is growing strongly, becoming a growth pole of the region and the whole country. Promoting the glorious tradition of 100 years of revolutionary journalism, the core and regular task of members and journalists of the province in the coming time is to continue to innovate and be more creative to complete the assigned tasks well. The immediate task is to focus on advising and proposing to the province to merge the Journalists Association and press agencies of the two provinces of Bac Giang and Bac Ninh according to the direction of the Central Government and the province, ensuring that after the merger, the quality and efficiency of operations are higher than before.

Continue to thoroughly grasp and effectively implement the Party's directives and resolutions on ideological and theoretical work, journalism and the Journalists' Association; constantly innovate and further improve the quality of content and form, ensuring that press publications, radio and television programs vividly demonstrate the Party's spirit and fighting spirit; information closely follows the policies, tasks and leadership solutions of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, Provincial People's Committee and practical life. At the same time, promptly propagate patriotic emulation movements, advanced models, good and creative practices at all levels, sectors, localities and all classes of people, frankly criticize and condemn acts of law violation; proactively and promptly refute the wrong views of hostile forces, and protect the Party's ideological foundation.

The 4.0 industrial revolution and new breakthroughs in science and technology, especially artificial intelligence (AI), are opening up great opportunities and challenges for development, including the field of journalism. To successfully complete their tasks, members and journalists need to proactively learn to improve their professional capacity, innovate their thinking, pioneer and take the lead in innovation, actively respond to the "Digital Education for the People" movement, and master modern journalism technology.

Proactively research and gradually apply artificial intelligence (AI) to all stages of journalism, first of all, converting reading voices from print newspapers to online newspapers; applying in optimizing the process of implementing journalistic works; in data analysis, helping members and journalists discover new trends to apply in professional activities; applying AI to analyze public trends in the process of proposing content lines suitable for each group of public audiences, thereby improving the quality and efficiency of task execution, helping to save time and resources of press agencies.

The Provincial Journalists Association continues to pay attention to coordinating with press agencies to promote the role of solidarity and gathering members. Take care to build a team of members and journalists with strong political will, good professional skills and steadfast in professional principles to meet the increasingly high requirements and demands of propaganda work and the public's need for information.

Proud of the glorious tradition of Vietnam's revolutionary press, promoting the results and experiences in recent years, the team of journalists of the province has constantly strived to build and develop a strong Bac Giang press in the digital age, contributing more and more practically and effectively to the implementation of local political tasks, worthy of the trust of Party committees, authorities and the love of the public.
