Previously, Ms. Le Thi Oanh (born in 1928, residing in Phuc Loc village, Duc Quang commune) lived alone in a dilapidated thatched house, always worried about collapse and loss of safety during storms. Due to her lonely circumstances and old age, Ms. Oanh did not have the means to repair or rebuild her house.
Faced with that situation, the local government coordinated with organizations, unions, and benefactors inside and outside the province to support 80 million VND along with working days to help Ms. Oanh build a new, spacious, and cozy house.
Ms. Pham Thi Huyen - Ms. Oanh's daughter shared: "My mother has two daughters, but due to family circumstances, she cannot live nearby to help. Having participated in the resistance war, my mother is a meritorious person who is cared for and supported by the government to build a house. The 65 m2 house, which was started in July 2025, has now been basically completed. These days, members of the Farmers' Association come to help dismantle the old house and clean up the garden. We are extremely touched by the neighborly love and care of all levels and sectors, helping my mother live in peace in her old age."
Implementing the policies of the Central Government, the province and the direct direction of Duc Tho district (old), in the 2024 - 2029 term, from support sources at all levels, the Fatherland Front of Duc Quang commune mobilized from socialized sources to build new and repair 73 houses for people with meritorious services, poor households, near-poor households and households with special difficulties worth 3.6 billion VND, creating conditions for people to gradually stabilize their lives.
Not only stopping at housing support, social security work in Duc Quang also aims at a long-term goal: helping people have jobs, income, and gradually escape poverty sustainably.
Ms. Ton Thi Phuong Huong (Tien Hoa village, Duc Quang commune) shared: “Since the end of 2023, my family has been supported with 3 breeding goats to develop the economy . As an animal that is easy to raise and has few diseases, after only 1 year of active care, the herd of goats has produced 3 more goats; currently 2 are in the reproductive stage. Thanks to a stable source of capital, the couple works hard to do additional farming and seasonal work, so the family's life has gradually improved, the children have a full education, and the family is trying to escape poverty."
Currently, Duc Quang commune is continuing to review poor households, near-poor households, and households in difficult circumstances to replicate the livelihood support model. This process is carried out seriously and closely, based on the conditions of each household to choose appropriate forms such as: support for seeds, seedlings, production tools, or seasonal job training... Each program is associated with the accompaniment of mass organizations, both helping people have a "fishing rod" and arousing the spirit of proactively rising up.
Storm No. 10, which made landfall at the end of September, caused nearly 2,000 households in Duc Quang commune to have their roofs blown off, thousands of households outside La Giang dike were submerged in floodwaters, causing huge damage to facilities and infrastructure. Immediately after the storm dissipated, the commune's government and Fatherland Front quickly reviewed and made a list of affected households to have timely support plans. Up to now, Duc Quang has received more than 7,000 gifts with a total value of more than 4.6 billion VND from organizations, volunteer groups, and philanthropists inside and outside the province to directly hand them to the people. With "support" from the community, many families have quickly overcome the damage, gradually stabilizing their lives and production.
Mr. Nguyen Truong Sinh - Head of Tien Phong village said: "After storm No. 10, Tien Phong village has 59 households receiving nearly 130 gifts with a total value of more than 52 million VND from organizations and unions. Although we are used to living with floods, the great damage caused by storm No. 10 still leaves many difficulties for the lives of people in the downstream area. The timely material and spiritual support has given people more motivation to stabilize their lives and gradually rebuild production."
In order for social security activities in the area to truly go into depth, in recent times, Duc Quang commune has promptly and effectively deployed meaningful activities such as: strengthening propaganda work; promoting movements and practical action programs "For the poor", "No one is left behind",...
Mr. Tran Hai - Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Duc Quang commune said: "Currently, there are 84 poor households and 141 near-poor households in the commune. Starting the peak month "For the poor", the local government has promptly mobilized resources and provided 92 gifts to families in difficult circumstances in the area. We identify social security work as not only the task of the Vietnam Fatherland Front or the government, but also the common responsibility of the whole society. In the coming time, the commune will continue to promote the spirit of solidarity, mobilize social resources, and deploy more effective support models so that people have the conditions to rise up and escape poverty sustainably, leaving no one behind."
From the houses of love, effective livelihood models or heartwarming gifts after the storm, the strength and effectiveness of the community's spirit of solidarity and sharing in implementing social security activities in Duc Quang commune have been shown. From the compassionate arms of the community, the drastic and active participation of the locality, families in difficult circumstances have gradually risen steadily, towards the goal of building an increasingly prosperous and happy homeland.
