Germany admits it has run out of weapons aid to Ukraine

(Dan Tri) - The German Ministry of Defense emphasized that Germany needs to focus on its own defense capabilities and those of its European allies, instead of continuing to provide large amounts of aid to Ukraine.

At a press conference on March 5, German Defense Ministry spokesman Michael Stempfle said that Germany had reached the limit of its ability to supply weapons to Ukraine.

Although Berlin has delivered many systems to Ukraine, aid must be limited, he said, stressing that Germany also needs to strengthen its national defense capabilities and ensure the security of its European allies.

While supporting Ukraine, Germany must still ensure its own defense capabilities, he said.

Germany has been one of Kiev's most important backers since the Ukraine conflict escalated in 2022. It has so far provided around 44 billion euros ($47 billion) in military and financial aid. The assistance includes Leopard tanks, Panzerfaust 3 anti-tank missiles, Stinger air defense missiles and Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft armored vehicles.

Mr Stempfle's information comes at a time when Ukraine could face difficulties on the battlefield after US President Donald Trump suspended all military aid to Kiev.

The suspension affects supplies of key weapons to Ukraine, including battle tanks, long-range missiles and air defense systems. CIA Director John Ratcliffe said Washington had also halted all intelligence sharing with Kiev.

In an effort to reverse the situation, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said earlier this week that he was ready to sign a mineral deal with the United States and negotiate peace with Russia under the leadership of President Trump.
