With dynamism, daring to think, daring to do, young man Nguyen The Tam, Youth Union of Village 4, Long Ha Commune, Phu Rieng District ( Binh Phuoc Province) boldly invested in the model of raising bamboo rats, which is still new in the locality.
5 years of working with this model has brought his family a stable income, opened up a new direction and created a startup movement from raising bamboo rats for many local youths.
Dare to think, dare to do with the model of raising bamboo rats
In 2019, after many years of working in the rubber tapping profession with increasingly limited income, Mr. Tam struggled to find a new direction for economic development.
Through researching and comparing many different economic models, he realized that raising bamboo rats was suitable for his family's circumstances and local natural conditions, so he decided to do it.
He spent an initial investment of about 30 million VND to build a barn and buy 5 pairs of breeding stock for testing.
Although he had studied care techniques from theory to reference and learned practical experience from many models in provinces such as Dak Lak , Lam Dong... but when he first tried to raise them, Mr. Tam failed.
Losing the initial investment in breeding stock, he was not discouraged but determined to invest in the second batch of breeding stock with 10 pairs.
Accumulating experience from previous failures and finding the cause, he adjusted care techniques and suitable breeding environment and was successful.
Mr. Tam shared: By the second year, I had more experience. This success gave me more motivation and courage to invest in breeding. I determined the development direction to raise bamboo rats to provide breeding and commercial products. For the past 5 years, after each time selling bamboo rats, I have always maintained and developed the herd with 100 pairs of parent and offspring breeding, more than 100 commercial bamboo rats to supply to the market.
Currently, the bamboo rat farming model of Mr. Nguyen The Tam's family, a young farmer in village 4, Long Ha commune, Phu Rieng district (Ba Ria-Vung Tau province) focuses on breeding products and commercial bamboo rats.
On average, each year the bamboo rat farming model brings my family about 300 million VND in income.
Simple care techniques and low raising costs are the biggest advantages of this type of livestock.
“The food of the bamboo rats is bamboo, bamboo plants, and supplementary foods such as corn and elephant grass. I feed the rats 3 main foods: bamboo, corn, and sugarcane to provide water for the rats.
Recently, I installed a water tap system for the bamboo rats to drink. Raising bamboo rats is not difficult, but the breeder must pay special attention to the temperature.
o The body of the bamboo rat has a lot of hair, if it exceeds 35 degrees Celsius, the bamboo rat is susceptible to heat shock. Therefore, in addition to ensuring food, it is necessary to cool the cage, keeping the temperature suitable for the bamboo rat's body temperature" - Mr. Tam shared more about the technique of caring for bamboo rat.
Raising bamboo rats has a stable output, this is a food that is loved by diners. Raising bamboo rats does not require a large investment, the cage area does not need to be too large, and can even take advantage of the empty cages of other animals.
Spreading the spirit of entrepreneurship
The success of young man Nguyen The Tam has inspired many youth union members of Long Ha commune to start a business.
With the direction of starting a business and being supported with initial breeds, care techniques, building cages as well as product output, Mr. Nguyen Trung Binh in village 10, Long Ha commune decided to invest in raising bamboo rats.
After being guided by Mr. Tam, Mr. Binh built his own cage. Initially, he invested in about 100 breeding rats. Mr. Binh said: I took advantage of my family's old warehouse, cleaned it up, and treated the environment to ensure safety to build a cage to raise bamboo rats. The main breeding techniques are diet and cage temperature.
Bamboo rats rarely get sick, have easy output and high economic value. During the breeding process, I was supported by Mr. Tam and the Youth Union of Long Ha commune to transfer the model, care techniques, breeds and product output. I will try to develop the model more and more effectively.
Currently, Mr. Tam's family's bamboo rat herd always maintains a population of about 400 of various types.
Long Ha commune’s youth union has 145 members, with 5 well-invested bamboo rat breeding models that are proving to be economically effective. The success of previous models has motivated many young people in the commune to boldly start businesses that are suitable to their family’s conditions.
The success of the bamboo rat breeding model of Mr. Tam and many other young people in Long Ha commune has affirmed that rural youth can completely establish themselves, start a career, and get rich legitimately on their homeland.
The most important thing is the spirit of overcoming difficulties and rising up. With that spirit, for many years now, the startup movement among the youth of Long Ha commune has received the support of many youth union members.
This activity has contributed to promoting the emulation movement to develop the economy, promote youth to build and develop the locality to become increasingly prosperous.
The movement of raising bamboo rats among the commune's youth started 5 years ago, starting with member Nguyen The Tam. Currently, Mr. Tam's model has a large number of herds, many product lines to supply to the market, bringing high economic efficiency.
Mr. Tam is very passionate about this model and is willing to support young union members who want to start a business, from care techniques to breeding, output...", Ms. Kieu Thi Thuy Phuong, Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union of Long Ha commune, Phu Rieng district, Binh Phuoc province.
