Phu Tho Market Management Department and Thanh Thuy District Police seized counterfeit goods of famous brands in Zone 8, Dong Trung Commune.

Pig intestines, a part of the small intestine of a pig, are considered a delicacy that many diners love. However, when a video clip of a restaurant owner in Hanoi showing off a 40-meter-long, 5.8-kg pig intestine dish believed to be from a female pig weighing more than 100kg went viral on social media, it attracted attention and sparked controversy over the authenticity of this food. In the face of controversy surrounding the dish, which is a favorite of many diners, authorities in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have officially begun an inspection to clarify the origin and quality of this item.

Many people believe that biologically, a pig cannot have such a long intestine, and certainly not in such large quantities as advertised. Immediately after, when working with the inspection team, the owner of this facility admitted that he “exaggerated” the image posted in 2024 and admitted that “the intestines are actually only more than 20m long” and apologized to consumers for the inaccurate information.

This is not just a story about the pipe heart. Previously, a series of fake milk and fake medicine cases have been discovered recently. Hundreds of products were labeled as “genuine” and “good for health” but were actually counterfeit, adulterated, or even branded. The food was fake, but only cancer was real.

When what is directly used for eating and drinking becomes a potential danger, consumer trust in the market becomes more fragile than ever. Living in the market matrix of fake and poor quality goods, consumers gradually have the habit of protecting themselves from reading the packaging carefully, tracing the origin, and choosing to buy at reputable places. But even those measures are not enough to ensure a safe food source.

Market Management Team No. 3 - Provincial Market Management Department coordinated with the Traffic Police Department of Phu Tho Provincial Police to seize and destroy animal organs that do not meet veterinary hygiene and food safety requirements for business.

The sophistication of counterfeiting has now surpassed ethical values. Dirty food is “magically” treated with chemicals to make it look fresh. Counterfeit drugs are made to look exactly like the real thing, infiltrating official sales channels. Fake milk is even advertised by some celebrities, unwittingly aiding the fraud.

With counterfeit products everywhere, from traditional markets to e-commerce platforms, consumers are increasingly confused about who to trust and what to buy. Every consumer decision is now a gamble with the health of themselves and their families. Counterfeit food is not simply an economic or commercial issue. It is an ethical issue, a serious threat to public health, and a loss of public trust.

Seize and destroy goods that do not meet veterinary hygiene and food safety requirements.

It is impossible to completely blame consumers for lack of knowledge or greed for cheapness while counterfeit products are sophisticatedly made and widely distributed across distribution channels, making it difficult to distinguish. Because the primary responsibility belongs to state management agencies. Inspection, examination, and handling of violations must be more drastic and continuous. It is necessary to strictly review the supply chain from production to distribution, apply digital technology to trace and make product information transparent. E-commerce platforms and celebrities cannot help but promote false advertising, regardless of the consequences for profit.

Returning to the story of “pipe intestines”, the question is: Why did shops sell pipe intestines everywhere before, without anyone managing them? It was only when the video of pipe intestines went viral that the authorities stepped in. And after the establishment of surprise inspection teams, this favorite dish became a rare commodity, “disappearing” from shops with the reason “out of stock”?

After fake medicine and fake milk, now “cigarette core” can also be counterfeited using chemicals. As the problem of counterfeit goods becomes more and more complicated, authorities need to strengthen measures to deal more strictly with individuals and organizations that produce and trade counterfeit goods to deter and protect consumer rights. Don’t let consumers lose confidence!

According to the report of the Steering Committee for Anti-Smuggling, Trade Fraud and Counterfeit Goods of Phu Tho province, in the first quarter of 2025, the authorities detected and handled 170 violations. Of which, there were 18 cases of illegal trading and transportation of prohibited and smuggled goods; 149 cases of trade fraud and tax fraud; 3 cases of counterfeit and pirated goods and intellectual property violations. The authorities prosecuted 17 cases with 27 defendants. The total amount of money collected for the State budget was over 10.8 billion VND.
