The People's Committee of Quang Ninh province has just issued an official dispatch, requesting to publicly and widely announce the hotline for handling tourism-related issues at all tourist areas, locations, and facilities and on media platforms so that people and tourists know and promptly report.
The request of the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province was made in the recent context that some tourist attractions, restaurants, accommodation establishments and on Ha Long Bay have experienced unfair competition, causing negative impacts on the environment and tourism image.
In fact, as noted by Lao Dong Newspaper: Traveling throughout the tourist capital of Ha Long, there is almost no place or public location posting the hotline of the Quang Ninh Provincial Department of Tourism, except on cruise ships or in a few hotels.
The situation in Quang Ninh is also common in many localities across the country. Although in 2020, the General Department of Tourism issued Document No. 898/TCDL-LH to the tourism departments of provinces and cities requesting the establishment of a public hotline to respond to and resolve complaints from tourists.
Hotlines are not a small matter but an important link in the tourism infrastructure system of each locality. Therefore, the difficulty in finding hotlines is a specific manifestation of destinations showing signs of lack of care, thoughtfulness, professionalism, and responsibility towards tourists.
The consequences and repercussions of this lack of care can be seen immediately. If a tourist in Quang Ninh or somewhere unfortunately encounters an accident, if they can easily contact the authorities, things will be simple.
But it is impossible or very difficult to contact local authorities, and things will become worse for the image of a destination if visitors "expose" everything on social networks to immediately relieve their anger.
Tourism, not only because now is the recovery phase after the COVID-19 pandemic - but at any time, destinations always need to build a friendly and safe image to attract tourists.
Therefore, Quang Ninh and other localities must not only “publicly and widely announce the hotline to handle tourism-related issues…” but also be transparent and truly hot, not hot and cold at times.
Having a hotline but it is hard to find is already a regrettable minus point for the lack of care for a tourist destination. But having a hotline that is sometimes active and sometimes not active is 100 minus points and is blameworthy!
