Nearly 100 jockeys compete in the 18th White Plateau Horse Race

(PLVN) - On the morning of June 7, at Bac Ha district stadium, Lao Cai province, the final round of the 18th traditional Bac Ha district horse racing tournament in 2025 took place.

The 18th White Plateau Horse Race in 2025 has 98 jockeys and horses from Bac Ha, Bat Xat, and Si Ma Cai districts ( Lao Cai ); Ham Yen district (Tuyen Quang province) and Son La province participating in the competition. This is the tournament with the largest number of jockeys registered to participate ever.

After the qualifying round held on May 3, 32 riders with excellent performance were selected for the final round.

After rounds of fierce and dramatic competition on the track, the Organizing Committee has determined the 4 jockeys with the highest achievements to be selected to compete in the final round.

At the end of the tournament, jockey Lam Van Thieu (Ham Yen district, Tuyen Quang province) excellently won first prize; second place was jockey Trang A Ma (Bat district, Lao Cai province), third and fourth place were jockeys Trang A Gio (Bat Xat district) and Nong Van Nghinh (Ham Yen district) respectively.

The organizing committee also awarded first prize in the team event to the three jockeys from Ham Yen district with the best performance; second prize to the jockey from Bat Xat district and third prize to the jockey from Si Ma Cai district.

Spectators gathered at the district's central stadium to witness the unique race only available in Bac Ha.

It is estimated that more than 10,000 spectators were present at the stadium to cheer on the tournament.

The Bac Ha horse racing festival was recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2021. This is the 18th year that the Bac Ha traditional horse racing festival has been held to preserve and promote the unique cultural and sporting traditions of ethnic minorities; create unique cultural tourism products, introduce to people and tourists the landscape, beauty, and cultural identity of the Bac Ha white plateau.

Dramatic matches with enthusiastic cheers from a large audience present at the stadium.

In addition to enjoying the exciting atmosphere of dramatic and exciting races, at the 2025 Bac Ha horse racing finals, the audience also got to watch the largest Sinh Tien Stick Dance performance ever with the participation of 600 students in the district. The unique, colorful traditional costumes and the flexible, graceful dances of the children helped spread the meaningful cultural identity of Sinh Tien dance of the Mong ethnic group to tourists.

The 2025 Bac Ha White Plateau Summer Festival with the theme “Intoxicated by Highland Horses” will feature many attractive cultural, artistic and sporting activities, attracting hundreds of thousands of domestic and foreign tourists to visit and experience. The highlight is the traditional horse racing tournament. This will be the basis for Bac Ha to continue to have specific activities to gradually improve the scale and quality of the tournament in the following years.
